Problem with fits was created by Magnus

Hi.

Last night i had my first complete indi Ekos imaging session, but im having problems prosessing my data.

Using gphoto and canon dslr i ended up with fits that only work in KStars. In KStars (fits viewer) the subs are colored an have a normal brightnes. However when trying to open in dss, regim and gimp, the subs is werry dark and monochrome.

Anything i can do to fix this?

I believe this is normal. A single sub is always quite dark.
For instance to check a single light in Nebulosity i have to debayer first to get the color and then have to stretch to check out the sub.

DSS will do this debayering proces during stacking thus adding the color.

So you can stretch the image to check out the sub (just like the option in Kstars) and see the real result after stacking.

Perhaps you can post one? Maybe your standard is different than mine/others :)

Hi.

Cannot get this to work. When i open in fits viewer i do not select any stretching, but i can still see a lot of stars with color.
When i open in DSS or GIMP i get a nearly black sub. Its so bad that DSS wont stack it as it does not find enough stars.
Normally with long subs (these are 660sec) i can have the register settings on ~75% and detect around 250 stars. On this sub i have set it to 10%, and it only detects 45 stars.

Screenshot Deep Sky Stacker

And screenshot Fits Viewer, with color and more visible stars.

Hi!

I've had similar problems with Pixinsight. Could it be somthing to do with debayering? My PI works nicely when I switch from fits to "native"=cr2, and then debayer during the process. .

To be more specific: what happens if you debayer before registering? I belive there is a setting in DSS about fits and bayer, that also could influence this... However, I don't use DSS anymore, so a bit uncertain there.

I do belive it has something to do about the debayering, and dss having trouble reading the monochrome fits.

As it was coplaining about star count i manually selected stars for each sub in dss and it stacked without issues, and did the debayering.

Not sure what to do about it. Cannot selekt stars manually for all future images.

Can you upload one FITS image somewhere? Also, if you reopen them in KStars FITS Viewer, you get the same result?

If i reopen in KStars FITS Viewer it always open as a RGB image, with expected brightness.
When opening in other program with FITS support it is very dark, Deep Sky Stacker cannot even properly detect stars.

As r00tk1d said, they does get converted to RGB after the debayering in DSS, but i had to manually select alignment stars to get it to stack.

Added all the subs to Drive, currently uploading.

Hi there.

I took a look at your fitsfile and here is what I can see..

So I could not see any problem with that colour seem to be missing...

I just double checked and it seems like gimp can open it correctly, but deep sky stacker and regim is having problems.

In dss i had to manually select all the stars, but when i had it stacked like normal. However in regim the image stacked, but ended up with almost no detail.
Not sure its the fits fault, but something is not working like it normally does with the canon raw .cr2 files

The regim stack

And with a brightening curve showing almost nothing.

The dss stack with manually selected stars, and some post processing.

Not sure if i have to use different stacking methods with the fits, ore what?

Just for curiosity I installed DSS Version 3.3.2 :)
I loaded the same image as in gimp and DSS it claims to have found 123 stars in the image and it looks like this after stacking..?? This is first time I used DSS so maybe I missed something..

Could i ask what star detection threshold you were using in registrer settings?

I got it to find ~150 stars, at 4% without median filter.
However when i try to stack more than one image, i get the message "One of 23 images will be stacked, please review / change the star threshold"

I just tried stacking in Siril, witch i have not used before. I got the debayering right, ending up with rgb subs like in FITS Viewer, but the stack got messed up.
I think ill try stacking the siril debayered subs in dss next, and see what tat gives me.

As i get very different results in all stacking software i try, i guess it might be user error. Newer had any issues with RAW though.
