QHY 5/ALCCD5 was created by Magnus Larsson

Hi!
I have a ALCCD5, which I think is the same as QHY5, monochrome guidecam. It has worked nicely with Ekos throughout last winter. Now, after resting for 2 months during the summer, it produces errors when I try to connect. dmesg gives this error:

device descriptor read/64, error -110

I've tried 3 different USB cables, no difference. I've tried on my raspberry Pi and on my laptop, no difference (same system...). Googling brings me no perfect matches, but something similar with different error codes - seemingly kernel related issues. Anyone knows anything about this? I am running latest (as of updated today) Ubuntu 16.04. Because of this error I cannot produce any lsusb or other information.

How about the rest of you using QHY cams, and latest kubuntu?

I have reported this problem to QHY, Lee the developer is aware and working on it. According to a message I received from him yesterday. ... Bruce

Hi again!

Any news on this, Bruce? I emailed him as well but have heard nothing from him. I wonder if there is a workaround in the mean time. I notived that the QHY5 seems functional with ubuntu 15.10, so I guess it is a kernel module issue, rather than gphoto issue (?). If so, I guess downgrading the to a previous module could do it. However, I'm not clear on how to do this... any ideas? (my linux konwledge is a bit rusty, I must admit)

I think you're right, I was running Ubuntu Mate 15-10. He told me he would load that OS to see if he could resolve the issue. Couple of days later during a software update, here comes another QHY update. Unfortunately I Have been traveling and have not had a chance to test it...

Hi!

I've been trying to down-grade my R-Pi to work around this problem - but to no avail. I repeat the same error no matter which version or Raspian I use now, it seems.

The new QHY driver you mention - which is that?

I have exactly same problem with QHY 5 on Ubuntu 16.04

dmesg give:
device descriptor read/64, error -110

I can connect to camera normally when I reboot to windows.

Once I was able to see throughout camera with Ekos, after I installed camera in Windows and reboot. But I wasn't able to replicate this result later.

It is pity that I cannot try such cool piece of software :-(

Hi,
I had the same issue with my QHY5 some weeks ago. You can look for your VID/PID in the dmesg output and then have a look into the /lib/udev/rules.d/85-qhy.rules file, whether there is an entry for it at all. If it is there but it doesn't work either, you can try to add:

ATTRS{idVendor}=="Your VID", ATTRS{idProduct}=="Your PID", RUN+="/sbin/fxload -t fx2 -I /lib/firmware/qhy/QHY5LOADER.HEX -D $env{DEVNAME}"
SYSFS{idVendor}=="Your VID", SYSFS{idProduct}=="Your PID", RUN+="/bin/sleep 5"

in the line before the entry for your VID/PID. Or you replace the entry for your VID/PID with:

ATTRS{idVendor}=="Your VID", ATTRS{idProduct}=="Your PID", RUN+="/sbin/fxload -t fx2 -I /lib/firmware/qhy/QHY5.HEX -D $env{DEVNAME} -s /lib/firmware/qhy/QHY5LOADER.HEX"

(but without the linebreak)

After saving the file and rebooting it works for me, but I have to redo this after every update of the qhy driver because it overwrites the file.
Hope that helps!

For any missing PID/VID, please post them here so I can add them to the QHY rules file.
