Can you capture an image with gphoto2 from the command line?

Not now.
It was working in the past because I wrote a little script that does not work anymore:
*** Error ***
This camera does not provide any configuration options.

Then troubleshoot the usual, change USB cable & try different USB ports. Remove USB hub if using one...etc. Make sure battery is OK.

The DSLR works on another machine with same cable and battery.
I tried all usb ports (no hubs) that are usually working (I can plug HDD and usb stick). It's like I have a problem with gphoto2.

Attached, the script I used

I forgot to say that my ZWO is working very well on all usb ports ... So I think that the problem is a software issue.
Something wrong with configuration files ?

Dear Jasem,
Writing this:
gphoto2 --camera « Canon EOS 1100D » --port usb: --capture-image
seems to give something because I can hear the mirror.
I have an error though (probably because I don't have sdcard in camera):
New file is in location /capt0000.cr2 on the camera
*** Error (-1: 'Unspecified error') ***
Always not working with ekos.

maybe that's the problem? Use an SD card and see if gphoto and then Ekos works?

Usually there is an option on Camera Menu/Advanced Settings to let the camera work without a card or to capture only to PC
Have you found and changed that option? I remember seeing it at least on my 550D.

I tried gphoto with a sdcard ...
"funny" things, I have another error message without the mirror noise this time:
*** Error ***
An error occurred in the io-library ('Could not claim the USB device'): Could not claim interface 0 (Device or resource busy). Make sure no other program (gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor) or kernel module (such as sdc2xx, stv680, spca50x) is using the device and you have read/write access to the device.
ERROR: Could not capture image.
ERROR: Could not capture.
*** Error (-53: 'Could not claim the USB device') ***

nmac: I can't change any value as I cannot connect the DSLR.

OK. Some news.
gphoto2 --camera « Canon EOS 1100D » --port usb: --capture-image-and-download
will give an error
Saving file as capt0000.cr2
Deleting file /capt0000.cr2 on the camera
*** Error (-1: 'Unspecified error') ***

but capt0000.cr2 is well saved in /home..... So gphoto seems working.

EDIT:
gphoto2 --set-config eosremoterelease=2 --wait-event=10s --set-config eosremoterelease=4 --force-overwrite --wait-event-and-download=2s
gives same error than ekos ...

Shame this did not get resolved, I experienced this last night in a dark sky location. I did manage to fluff around with the timing of the camera with the Ekos operation, but can't remember how I did it. Now that I am home the same is occurring.

I noticed that the camera is doing un-usual things not normally. The red light flickers when switching on, the display goes busy than normal camera operations. Finally, after locating the error, I came back to the camera, switch it off and the "sensor clean" display does not appear as usual.
This was with the Canon DSLR Driver, I tried to use gphoto, but the error message appeared.

I will try and fluff around to get it working unless I find another post with more details.

Last night INDI version was 1.93, today it is 1.94. So it is an ongoing issue but never seen it before.
