Hardware acceleration was created by Helge

Hi all. My first post at this forum. There will probably be more. :)

When trying to start EKOS on my 64 bit Windows machine I get this error message, and EKOS will not boot.

"VT-x/AMD-V hardware acceleration is not available on your system. Your 64-bit guest will fail to detect a 64-bit CPU and will not be able to boot."

Is this related to a setting or is it my PC that is missing something.

Thanks for any help.

Yes you need to enable Virtualization Support at the BIOS level, so you need to look that up for your PC. Alternatively, we have KStars natively running now on Windows. Download it from KStars website

OK, so I downloaded Kstars. Seems to be working fine.

Does your answer imply that I will not need VirtualBox etc. al all to control the equipment in the observatory?

Yes, Ekos on Windows can connect to a remote Raspberry PI or something that like that is running the actual drivers. If you don't have a remote computer (i.e. raspberry pi) running Linux, then yes you would need to the use the Virtual Machine.

That's excellent. A PI is on my x-mas wish list. I don't know anything about Linux so there will probably be more questions at that stage. However, I do recognise some of the commands from my DOS days (yes, I'm that old ;) )

Thanks for the answers and clarification.
