Would someone please explain the steps to setup Ekos to EQASCOM to HEQ5. I have all the driver and everything connects but the mount tab does not show up on the ekos control window and the solver tab is greyed out everywhere.

My understanding is that ekos is talking to INDI sever, which is talking to ASCOM, which is talking to EQASCOM, which is talking to the mount. With EQASCOM tools I can see that I am connected and have control of the mount. But something is missing.

Up to now, the only help I can find is old and says to install a VM on windows. This should not be necessary anymore but how is it done?

For HEQ5, you don't need a VM. Just make sure you have ASCOM driver for HEQ5 and then use INDI Server For Windows to start INDI server with the HEQ5 mount driver. You also need at least one CCD running. If you have none, use the Simulator. In KStars, use the Equipment Profile Wizard to guide you through the process.
