OSX has library directories in both the system and the user area, and each has an application support folder.

Although I confirmed both places, there are no folders and files shown.
How do I install it?

The OSX version is 10.12.6.

I examined places where I can think again.
Right-click the application icon → display the contents of the package →
/ contents / Resources / Locale
There seems to be a localized file, but it does not seem to be working.

Hi T-Studio,

The ~/ at the beginning of the path Jasem posted means the user's library directory not the system directory. Your computer knows this convention and if you type: cd ~/Library/Application Support/locale into the terminal, it would go into that folder if it exists. The same thing is true of the Go menu item in the Finder.

I wrote a few lines of code the other day that will copy this folder out of the KStars.app bundle into the correct location if you don't have the locale folder yet. But after your post today I tried it with the build we posted the other day and discovered that in fact there were a few files missing in the locale folder that is in the app bundle, which would prevent it from working correctly anyway. I just rebuilt the dmg this evening and sent it to Jasem, so it should be updated within a few hours. When you get the new dmg, if you don't have the locale folder with the translations in it, it will copy it. And this folder works properly and Kstars doesn't even need a restart after it copies the folder.

That said, If you tried the dmg that was posted the other day, the locale folder that was copied to ~/Library/Application Support/Locale is missing some files and won't work properly. When you get the new dmg, just delete the old folder at ~/Library/Application Support/Locale and it will copy in the corrected version and it should all work perfectly. I tested it several times just a couple of minutes ago.

Thanks,

Rob

Thanks for the reply.
I downloaded the new dmg file and tried it.

This time when you launch the application, the locale directory is automatically created in the user library.

However, the language switching command is not displayed on the help menu.

Something may be missing.

First of all thank you very much for bringing language support to Kstars!

Unfortunately I run into some problems:
I've installed the new 2.8.3 on my MacBook Pro (10.12.6) and changed the language to German and restarted the app.
After a few seconds the screen changes to a (cool) 8 bit mode:

Console log is empty :-(

Any suggestions?

All the best,
Oliver

This has to mark the weirdest bug I ever received for KStars during the last 15 years! Any Mac gurus care to weigh in??

Poison,
can you change the language from German to default and run KStars?
You can try my open project Astronomy Linux

Um. . .thats different?! is it just the skymap? Or is there any other part of the program that is affected? I have been using KStars now on multiple Macs since I first got it to compile about a year ago. And I have built it multiple ways and edited the code many times and it has never done that! Not even when I was editing the graphics of the skymap to try to track down that pesky little bug that was sometimes putting a thin black horizontal line across the middle of the screen. You might see if you can get the problem to repeat itself and find the conditions under which it does so. Also, it might help to run KStars from the terminal to see if any errors print out when you do it. And it might be good to take a lot at a log file to see if anything gets logged

Hello Oleg,

I changed the language to default and all works well. So I'll guess the German language file is buggy?
