You can copy the xml files from a variety of different places. I don't know why they aren't installed when you install libindi.

Just done that, I can now select a driver in the drop down menus. But the indi control panel is still unavailable.
I cannot save a profile, and on starting indi, kstars crashes with a Segmentation fault: 11

can you start the indiserver from the command line?

Can you connect to a remote indi server that is running?

I would say start up the cloud makers software and see if you can connect to an already running indiserver.

good call, let me try this now.

edit:
same crash.
One thing I did see in the build was something about missing QT5Network.
Could it be?

When I first got this stuff working, I did NOT have libindi installed and could ONLY connect to a cloud makers indiserver that was already running

I was concerned about some of the stuff I saw when you started up too. This is what mine looks like if I run from the command line rather that clicking the app

Cassiopeia:Desktop rlancaste$ cd kstars.app
Cassiopeia:kstars.app rlancaste$ cd Contents
Cassiopeia:Contents rlancaste$ cd MacOS
Cassiopeia:MacOS rlancaste$ ./kstars

I need to find a way to install the missing Qt5Network, almost certain this is why it's crashing.

or maybe it is there and you just need to set an environment variable

export PATH=$PATH:$(brew --prefix gettext)/bin
export Qt5_DIR=$(brew --prefix qt5)
export Qt5DBus_DIR=$Qt5_DIR
export Qt5Test_DIR=$Qt5_DIR
export Qt5Network_DIR=$Qt5_DIR
export ECM_DIR=$(brew --prefix kf5-extra-cmake-modules)/share/ECM

I forgot to save the terminal output, but I clearly saw a message about missing Qt5Test and Qt5Network.

By the way, if this doesn't work, you can always try the emerge method of installing KStars. I got that working last week. I don't know which is better.
