KStars crashes after a few autofocus cycles

Hi everyone,

Since the latest ppa upgrade to KStars and INDI my autofocus causes KStars to crash with a segmentation fault. I have not been able to get any error logs as a result.

It seems to happen after several autofocus data points are gathered. Autofocus was working fine prior to these latest updates.

I am using an Optec TCF-S with KStars Build 2018-04-11T16:32:28Z, Version 2.9.4, and KDE Frameworks 5.18.0, Qt 5.5.1. Attached is the crash output.

I'd be happy to gather more data if needed.

Thank you,
Ollie

I'm not adding anything probably, but the code fails when storing the focus position for the current filter. Do you have a filter wheel in your setup?

Hi Eric,

Thanks for looking at the error output. I an using a OSC camera. No filter wheel installed. The FW and Filter options are greyed out in the Focuser area of Ekos as well.

I am not using a step focuser, but an anlog motor unit driven by FCUSB from Shoestring Astronomy. I am also using a OSC camera and the autofocus module performed fine last night on that setup.

Okay, that is good to know. I must have a problem with my setup. I'll start with a fresh install and see if it happens again.

Hello.
I have a same problem.
I am using MoonLite Focuser (compatible).
Camera is Canon DSLR, filter wheel is not used.
KStars is 2.9.4, INDI is 1.7.0.
KStars freezes in the middle of autofocus.
It seems to happen after several autofocus data points are gathered.
Because KStars crashed, log could not be obtained.
I try to get the log again tonight.

Maybe specific for stepper motors? My timer-based analog focuser worked without a problem. Will use it again tonight and let you know tomorrow if there is an issue.

As a workaround, could you try to insert a filter wheel sim driver in your setup? No need to configure it to any purpose, it's just to see the impact on the code.
