Focusing module in Ekos with GPhoto+Canon DSLR

Has anybody used the Focus module in Ekos for Canon DSLR and GPhoto?

I have a Canon 1000D camera with Canon EF-S 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS STM lens. When the lens focus is set to "infinity" in manual focus mode, it is not in focus. I would like to use Ekos for fine-tuning the focus, but it does not work, the HFR values do not improve in a sane way. As I can see there are "Focus In" and "Focus Out" controls in my Gphoto driver, but I am not even sure if the module change the focus at all.

What is the expected result here? I suppose I must set to Stabilizer On and the focus mode to Manual Focus on the lens. But what else?

Does anybody use similar setup?

The GPhoto focus stuff is not reliable and varies from one camera to another. If someone can figure out a better method, let me know.

For my 600D, the focus controls work but I never tested it with Autofocus.

Full feature of Gphoto does not work with digic III processor. For better compatibility it is necessary to use a digic IV processor.

I took a 500D and not a 1000D because of that!
