Hi, I am totally new to linux and Kstars-Ekos-INDI. I am very impressed by what I have seen.
My question is this. Is there a way to get the airmass of and object in Kstars and to have the airmass added to the fits header?
I am mainly interested in doing photometry and airmass is very important for this.

The FITS headers are created in INDI, not KStars. It could be added, but can you check if the forumla here is sufficient?

Hi,
This formula looks good. But I am no math whiz. What I need is the airmass to at least 3 decimal points.
I have been using the planetarium program Guide from Project Pluto for several years. As you move the cursor around the star
map it displays the RA, Dec, airmass. It actually displays sec z the secant of the zenith angle z.

This would be great to have in the header for people doing photometry.

I recommande ASTROIMAGEJ for photometry. It is a great software with very good documentation. You can run a single or multi-aperture photometry, do curve line from exoplanet, etc. It can run together with Kstars capture, looking for and processing new image into a folder.
I would not want Kstars becomes an obese software doing everything and too much complex.
A right tool for a right job !

Yes I've used astroimagej Its pretty good. Now I use astropy photutils and I think its better....
Sorry for any confusion, I dont want kstars or indi to become a photometry tool.... I would just like airmass added as a fits header to the images. Its an environmental property just like, SQM which is currently added as a header. This property could have many uses to other fields too, not just photometry.

I plan on doing photometry with AAVSO's VPHOT. One requirement to upload images to VPHOT is to have airmass in the header. This is best done at time of exposure when the header is written. This is why I ask if it could be included.

Is this still working? I'm pretty sure it was working for me before I did the last update? I dont have AIRMASS headers now in the fits files for some strange reason.

It's working here. Make sure location is correctly set in the mount driver so that it gets picked up by the CCD driver to make such calculations.
