Unable to save sequence of fits? | SOLVED

Hi
I've been trying unsuccessfully to take a sequence of fits. I have everything set up under CCD control, set the number of shots to take, add the sequence to the list, select the save folder (even using the default 'home') then start the shots. Ekos takes one image then freezes until I select cancel ? After a promising start I now don't seem to having much luck with Ekos and getting various crashes from a few different things such as the 3rd party Atik driver ,trying to create observing lists, lodestar guider seemed to develop a West slew which didn't stop until I closed Ekos down.Hopefully filed the bugs OK!
Thanks
Steve

Which version of KStars do you use, which distribution? I didn't observe this issue right now, I'm using kstars-bleeding (which is a git snapshot made on 16th June) from my Fedora repository, also using the Atik driver. A workmate told me, that he has sometimes crashes on Kubuntu 14.04, but I was not able to reproduce them yet.

Hi Christian
I`m using the latest Kstars (2.2) bleeding on each distro I install, I`ve tried Ubuntu 14.04 64bit, Mint 17 both 32bit & 64bit, Mint 16 32bit &64bit versions.
When things work they work fine except the observing planner as I posted before it doesn`t take much when creating an observing list (using HD numbered stars) to cause an immediate crash but the saving of the image sequence is quite frustrating as it counts down fine for the first exposure but just takes one then hangs!.
I`m not one to give in easy but (heaven forbid) the lure back to windows is raising its head :(
Thanks

Gasman, I tried to reproduce the observing list crash but I couldn't despite trying many different ways to add objects to the observing list (HD and others) but couldn't get any crash. I will try to add debug symols to kstars-bleeding so I can get more useful crash reports.

Thanks Jasem. I've tried with 2 laptops and 1 desktop using different distros! What distro are you using if you don't mind me asking?

I'm using Kubuntu 14.04. At any rate, hopefully by tomorrow the new kstars-bleeding-dbg package should be up, you can install it by:
sudo apt-get install kstars-bleeding-dbg

Then if you get a crash it would at least contain useful information.

Ok, the debug package is now finally avaiable. Just please run sudo apt-get update and then the command in the previous post. If you get a crash hopefully you'll get a useful backtrace, just post it here.

Thanks Steve for the backtrace. I made a change to the code that might resolve the crash, but I'm not sure since it's not reproducible here. Make sure you do not install kstars from the Mint/Ubuntu repo, only from the PPA i.e. kstars-bleeding package only. It is better to avoid any conflicts with whichever files or settings that come with stock KStars.

By tomorrow a new kstars-bleeding should be available with the potential fix, however, I still can't reproduce "HD star is already in the list". Can you write the steps you took step-by-step after you started KStars?

Hi Jasem
Sorry I seem to be mixing up two different posts anyway this is how I try to create a list in Kstars.

Laptop not connected to anything, launch Kstars
I have the Henry Draper Index,Tycho-2 star catalogue &USNO catalogue Kstars addons already installed
Open Observation planner make sure Wish list & Session planner empty
left click `Find object` and enter HD4004 then return
notice HD4004 is in the Wish list then right click and add to session planner and see HD4004 is in both Wish list & Session planner
left click `Find object` and enter HD6327 then return
Nothing happens other than message at bottom left of screen `HD6327 is already in your wish list` when only HD4004 is shown
I think if I right click and delete HD4004 out of the wish list then I can try HD6327 so I right click on HD4004 Kstars crashed, this time with a `signal segmentation fault (11)`
Note Kstars doesn`t always crash at this point but most if not all further HD stars I try and add to Wish list message at bottom left of screen says its already there!

this is the backtrace from the above fault

I actually can now confirm the same issue, so that's good news.. will hopefully fix it tomorrow if I can dig the problem.
