Hello.
Last night I was trying to focus my dslr with ekos auto focus module.
However I did not get a good result. I didn't have the option to select auto star, but sub frame was selected, but when exposing no sub framing was occurring. Maybe subframe is not possible with gphoto?
And how do you select star when "auto select star" is not selected?

I was getting results that reported a HFR of around 40-60 which sounds a bit high?
Maybe there wasn't any good magnitude stars to focus on?

Hi Daniel. With GPhoto it is not possible to subframe because the driver does not support subframing, and for such a case no star is selected but it is calculated from the average HFR of the stars within the image. 40-60 is actualy very high and unrealistic, if you can send me the frames you captured that reported this value I can investiagte further. It can report erronoues values if the image is severely out of focus or quite noisy.

Hello.
Sorry to say I didn't save any of the frames when I was focusing, but the initial frame should have been something like these two images.

They're quite big (30MB each)

Did you enable any filter in the focus module (Autostrech...etc) ?

I tried autostrech if I remember it correctly.

ah this must have skewed the results, because I just opened them in the FITS viewer and the HFR was 1.5 and 2.5 respectively which is reasonable but with autostretch it creates all sorts of artifacts and 50px+ HFRs! I think I will add a warning to turn off ANY filter before starting autofocus.

I will se when I get a chance to try it again. Work and bad weather tends to get in the way :)
