I plan to get a weather station for my under-construction observatory. It seems most weather stations are already Linux compatible from the list over at
WeeWX
but I need something that would stand heat up to 55C or even 60C under direct sun light, and can provide some measurement for cloud/sky quality if possible. I guess the 2nd requirement is probably not available for general purposes weather stations, but at any rate, any recommendations?
I'm having a very good experience with the Indiduino meteo station. Really easy to build and set up, amazing performance for a very low cost. Why to go for a more expensive device? The only problem is the calibration of the thermal IR sensor for cloud detection, but once sorted out, it is reliable enough for general use.
The Arduino Uno processor is rated to operate from -45 to +80 C, so this should not be a problem. It has been operating at my site for the last 3 weeks, without problems (no extreme conditions for the moment, however).
It does not measure rain and wind, but I think these should be easy add-ons.
