Thankyou so much knro !

Please forgive the following newbie questions:
  1. do i enable debug and logging in kstars/ekos or is that done from the command line on the server?
  2. (if the latter, what is the command)
  3. do i have to download the driver separately or is it included in libindi?
  4. what is the driver executable?
  5. from the previous suggestion by maxer "maybe rmuhlack could doublecheck that by sending the command I6 to the wheel " , what command(s) would be used to do that?

1. In INDI control panel --> Options tab.

2. included with INDI. If you go to KStars/Ekos, you'll find it under Filter Wheels.
3. indi_xagyl_wheel
4. No need for that now, just use the driver.

my server is running on a RPi. I have just downloaded and installed the daily build as linked to on the indilib.org website however it seems that indi_xagyl_wheel is not found when I start the server:

this also seems to suggest that the RPi INDI library has not yet been updated.
indilib.org/download/raspberry-pi/downlo...or-raspberry-pi.html

Sorry - should have said I was using a RPi server at the beginning.

(Note I have updated my KStars/Ekos install on my client side PC running Xubuntu 15.04, and I do see the Xagyl wheel in the drop down there. I just need the driver on my server....)

The 32/64 bit packages were updated a few hours ago and the raspberry pi package should be done soon.

Just a question about port to connect to.. my filterwheel (wich is not really a Xagyl but Arduino emulated Xagyl) creates device /dev/ttyACM1 but it seems impossible to change the port in Options ? I also tried to change the default /dev/ttyUSB0 in ~/.indi/XAGYL Wheel_config.xml to /dev/ttyACM0 but the port doesn't change in Options, not even pressing the Load button.. also it can not be changed from /dev/ttyUSB0 to /dev/ttyUSB1 either.. so how to I change that ??

Now the change of Port works fine, but I get "Timeout error" on commands "O2" - "O6", I can't find any reference to more that just one command begin with "O" wich is : Display sensor position offset for filter position Value - "PX Offset XX" otherwise it works just fine :)
Anyone else tried the driver ??

Yes, I tried out the driver last night. No problems with it so far. I'm using the default configuration settings for the wheel.

Note, this is with the newer 8 position wheel, with the server running on a RPi with Raspbian Jessie.
