Pepe replied to the topic 'Polar Alignment with QHY Mini-Guidescope and QHY 5II-M' in the forum. 2 weeks ago

Hi Richard,

I have been using the same setup for polar alignment. However, so far I only tried the sharpcap software. I didn't encounter any problems or noise issues even in summer. I also tried the ekos procedure but couldn't finish it because I didn't have a goto mount at hand (tried it on a star adventurer travel mount). But ekos solved all intermediate images.

Hope that helps.

Best regards
Stephan

Dear Rob!

Thank you very much for your detailed explanation! You have given valuable insight into the reasoning that is behind the different projects. I have been using Linux for quite a while but still consider myself a newbie. At the end of the day I can only humbly look at the great job you guys are doing with programming and creating Ekos and all its components. Even using all that is fascinating. Your projects really make a difference!

So my comment was not meant as criticism but rather a curious question. Unfortunately, I can’t help in programming but please count me in in case you need people for testing.

Best wishes
Stephan

Hi everybody!

I hope you don't mind my asking. I am a bit confused about the different ways to have ekos on a raspberry Pi which are around at the moment.

So there is astroberry server, stellarmate, James tutorial and now there is the setup script. I understand that at the end of the day these are all different ways to end up with a working instalation of ekos on RPI.

I am really impressed and grateful of all your efforts for these projects but wouldn't it be nice to combine them into a single project?

Best wishes

DearEric,
this is great news! Thank you for all the effort you put into this project! I hope IÄll soon find the time to try the driver. How do I "use/adapt the provided udev rules"?

Please let me know if I can help beta testing the new driver (with PHD2 protocol).

Cheers

Hi,

I have only now realized that the INDI 1.5 library comes with a "New Lacerta MGen driver". Is that the one refereced to in this thread? Has anyone tried it yet?

Pepe replied to the topic 'Polar alignment non-goto mount' in the forum. 4 months ago

Hi!

Thanks for you reply! I understand that the polar alignment involves plate solving and a mathematical algorithm. But what I do not quite get is why the mount should rotate by a defined angle? That information is already right there and can be retrieved by plate solving too. In fact, that's what software like SharpCap does. I can get a decent polar alignment within five minutes on a non-goto mount. But that's on windows and does not run on Rpi3. I'd prefer Ekos :-)

Sorry if I ask again ... is there a way to use the new Ekos polar alignment procedure without goto mount?

Pepe created a new topic ' Polar alignment non-goto mount' in the forum. 4 months ago

Hi!

Last night I tried Ekos (stellarmate) on a small sky adventurer travel mount. As theses type of mounts do not have any DEC correction it is very helpful to have good polar alignment.

I tried to use the Ekos polar alignment routine together with the telescope simulator. I realized that between each capture and solve step the mount needs to be rotated by an adjustable amount. I tried to do that but couldn't quite match the necessary degree. I guess a goto mount would just do the job automatically.

Is there a way to use polar alignment also for manual non goto mounts?

Pepe replied to the topic 'Astroberry Server' in the forum. 4 months ago

Hi again!

Thanks for your help on connecting to astroberry server. I am still struggling with my windows computer but focused on MAC in order to proceed further.

I just tried to connect to my home wifi to run astroberry-update. I left the Pi idle for some minutes and when I returned I just found a black screen. I thought this is the screensaver but moving the mouse doesn't let the black screen disappear. Now I can't access the astroberry desktop anymore.

Do you experience the same thing and know how to circumvent this?

Thanks and best wishes

Hi,

thank you for your replies! On myMacBookPro both https and vnc work nicely. Only on windows and iOS I faced problems.

I just installed realVNC viewer on my ipad and I am able to connect to astroberry by using astroberry.local:5900. I'd like to try the browser connection as well. How do I find the IP address of my RPI3?

Windows is a different story (as usual ...). I also tried realVNC and I got the message that connection was refused. Any ideas?

Thanks again for your help!

Have a nice Sunday evening!

Hi,

I ran into some poblems with astroberry Server that I can't quite understand.

My first attempt to connect with astroberry Server have been with a MacBook Pro. Connection to RPI3 via WLAN worked right away, i.e. I can start astroberry.local and connect to the Desktop. Only some Icons within the Desktop Environment don't seem to work. For example, clicking on shutdown etc. has no effect.

I then tried the same but using an iPad. Again I can connect to wifi and start astroberry.local. However, Connection to the Desktop fals.

I also tried an old Windows Laptop (running win 10 pro) which I use as my astronomy Computer in the field. Here I can connect to wifi but nothing else. The browser bu also vnc does not connect to astroberry.local. An error message says Connection to Server failed.

I am a bit puzzled about what to do next. Does anybody experience similar issues?

Best wishes

Dear Kaczorek,

I just installed astroberry and was able to run a few first tests. I am very impressed! You managed to put together a very useful project. I can't wait to collect some reaö photons with astroberry. Thanks a lot for sharing your work!

Are you familar with THELI as a software for astronomical data reduction? I was wondering whether the RPI3 powerful enough to run THELI. Just a thought.

Pepe replied to the topic 'StellarMate Astrophotography Gadget' in the forum. 5 months ago

Dear Jasem,

your StellarMate project sounds really interesting! Do I understand correctly that ekos runs on the pi so there doesn't need to be an active connection to an iOS device all the time?

I was wondering if you could offer the software seperately? I already have a pi and would actually prefer not to be another one. This would also be a nice way to support all the effort you put into developing ekos!

Pepe replied to the topic 'Do it yourself focuser: which one?' in the forum. 8 months ago

Hi,

I just learned about a very interesting diy project:
sourceforge.net/projects/arduinofocuscontrollerpro/

As far as I understand the controller can be built using standard components with a minimum of soldering. The controller comes in two flavours .. and one has a dedicated INDI driver.

Dear Jasem,

thanks for your reply. I didn't know that LX200 also supports a focuser. I will try that. Unfortunately, I didn't get a response from Avalon on an INDI driver. I only read somewhere that they think of Linux support. I will report back if the focuser works with LX200.

Best wishes
