Thanks for that suggestion Ihoujin.
I moved the file, but it still does not show in the profile editor. (see attachment)
When i open the Web Manager in my browser, the Motor HAT Focuser does show in the drivers select box in the focuser group and is select-able.

I installed KStars/Ekos also on the Raspberry PI itself, but the result is the same.

Lost this battle, but hope to win the war.

I compiled and installed the Adafruit Motor HAT driver. So far so good. I run the Raspberry Pi as remote INDI server. I run the KStars/Ekos client on Windows 10 on my desktop. But the "Motor HAT Focuser" is not showing in the list of focusers in the KStars Profile Editor, so I can not add it to my profile.
I checked that the .xml file is in the /usr/share/indi folder and it is.

Any suggestions?

Sorry knro,

I see that this was the wrong log. I will try to make a new one, but reinstalled from scratch, so the previous log is lost.

I'm a Linux newbie and got confused by the fact that there seem to be two roots. A linux root and a user root. So when knro wrote: "This is why it is recommended NOT to run the Web Manager as root.", I uninstalled indiweb with sudo and reinstalled it for user, and ended up nowhere.

Then I found this item . So I reversed my actions again and reinstalled as root. Problem remained that the .service scripts were nowhere to be found. So I eventually downloaded the .zip from GitHub, changed the user in indiwebmanager-pi.service to my username, RENAMED the file to indiwebmanager.service before copying it to the /etc/systemd/system folder. Finally I got my logs.

This my all be very clear to Linux savvies, but may I ask to have a little consideration with Linux newbies? But, after all, I'm glad its working now.

After getting a new micro SD card and loading it with my Raspberry Jessie image, I suddenly had logs!
I saw that on the pi the log is created in /home/pi/.indi, but when I switch to the sd card with Ubuntu Mate the logs are created in /root/.indi, while my root is /home/bert and this must be the reason that the logs are not created.

The question is now, where (in which file) is this root defined?

I hope that with this explanation an answer will come up.

OK, I got myself a new micro sd card and put my Raspberry Jessie backup on it. Then I updated the indi driver. The result is still the same. As soon as I hit the Capture & Solve button, the CCD Simulator log says: "Got no stars, is gsc installed with appropriate environment variables set ??"

I have attached the logs, but am unsure what they will reveal.

That I have logs is a surprise, but that question is further explained in this thread .

Hi Jasem,

I noticed the absence of log files a few nights ago when working with the real stuff. But due to bad weather I'm using the simulators (remote on the Pi) to reproduce the problem. To keep things simple I only use three drivers Telescope Simulator, CCD Simulator and Astrometry.

In all three drivers I have checked Debug Enabled (without it the Logging Levels are not shown) and Logging Levels set to Errors, Warnings, Messages and Driver Debug. In the telescope also Scope Verbose.

Log output is set to "To Log File". in all three drivers, but the .indi map on the Pi stays empty but for the profiles.db, so no logs folder anf logs.

Dear Helge,

The hidden files is not my problem. The hidden .indi folder is there, but it contains only the profiles.db.

The other problem is solved. I installed yesterday evening the KStars 2.8.4 on my windows machine and reloaded the latest daily indi release. Remote solving is now working. I have indeed Astronomy under Aux 1 in the profile.

So my problem remains: why is non of the drivers writing its log. The logs folder and the files are not even created. The chmod value of .indi is 775.

HelgeMK wrote that he could not produce log files, because there aren't any. I have exactly the same problem. My setup is WIndows 10 KStars 2.8.3 and a Raspberry Pi 3 with Ubuntu Mate16.04.
When checking the Pi, there is no logs folder in .indi. In KStars the button "Show Indi Logs" does nothing. KStars session log on the Windows machine is OK.

I have also the problem that Remote solving with Astrometry driver in my profile, does not report back to KStars. If the .fits is resolved I cannot check, because there are no logs.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for your reply. I was rather certain that the telescope was running, but because I followed your advice to switch to Ubuntu-Mate I can not check it at the moment. I will get myself another microSD card, I have taken an image from the installed Jessie installation, so I can put it on that card new card en check.

Hello,

I am completely new to astro photography so I wanted to train myself by using the simulators via KStars and EKOS. In order to receive images from the simulator, I set my GSC up according this instructions. Unfortunately I get no results in KStars. The preview is noise and the error message is: "Got no stars, is gsc installed with appropriate environment variables set ??". There is a three years old item on the forum here that is marked as SOLVED. But it is with different linux and older GSC. I ran the commands that Thorsten showed in #849 and get the same results. It is working on the PI3 but not in EKOS.
Is there someone out there with the same setup (PI Jessie with GSC and Windows 10 KStars 2.8.3) who got this working? The debug file only contains login and logout messages. The telescope is unparked and tracking in sidereal mode.

Thanks in advance

Bert
