Hello everyone,

Sorry for the delay, I was not at home.

I made a quick video to show you what is the difference in altitude measurement with kstars/ekos and other program like cgps, xgps, ...
I hope this will help to understand my astonishment mostly if you are telling me that altitude is getting from the same source.

I precise that I'm using a gps module on my remote raspberry pi and for the video my rapsberry was outdoor.

For the device update, I think this append when gps is not fix already. I will made more test this evening.

Sébastien.

Hi Jasem,

I'm flying from bug to bug. Maybe it's time to open official bug reports :woohoo:
1. If altitude is read in the nmea line why altitude in indi gpsd driver is different from command line gps tool (at the same time)
2. 2 updates of gpsnmea later, the driver is still crashing. I think it's more than a build issue.
3. This is really weird. My mount is a Celestron CG5 and support time and location but GPS sync only Kstars, not my mount. This is the case only when I sync PC to device.
4. And the new one : when sync my CG5, the longitude is set to 0.0000E. Maybe, my mount doesn't like the 0 - 360° format of indi for longitude. Latitude and time are fine.

So for now, I think I found a third bug.

First : altitude with GPSD as reported earlier
Second : total crash of GPS NMEA driver. Memory issue ? https://pastebin.com/AZM60kZj

And new and last one. Using a GPS, a computer and my CG5 mount (NexStar driver) :
- Case 1, you sync device to computer then GPS will sync location and time in kstars but not for the mount
- Case 2, you sync computer to device then computer will sync location and time of the mount but this is not the GPS time and location

Ok, PPA update done. As you can see, longitude is correct and kstars is well sync to the geographic coordinate of my gps device.

But there is always a difference in the altitude or elevation value as you can see in the screenshot

indi_gpsnmea is always crashing (KStars detected INDI driver indi_gpsnmea crashed. Please check INDI server log in the Device Manager.)

Sébastien.

Thank you Jasem. I made an update of ppa but longitude is always negative. I think, I have to wait the next build.
Did you find something wrong for the altitude ?

Just for fun, I tried to play with NMEA gps driver and it crashes on my system (on a remote raspberry and on my linux mint local machine) and sometimes it crashes kstars.

PS : I renamed the topic. This is now a general topic about GPS drivers troubleshooting ;)

I'm sick and tired. Time to go to bed and take some rest.

Hello,

I'm playing with "gps" on my raspberry pi and compare data from cgps or xgps and Ekos.

Curiuosly, there is an error between altitude displayed within ekos. Please watch screenshots in attachment.

I'd like to see a tutorial on

- object management in kstars (asteroid, comet)
- how to retrieve an object
- how to add a missing object (I tried with asteroid 2012 TC4 and unfortunately failed)
- how to interact with object, observation, log

thank you

Qhy5 is noisy and there is no shutter. I have to write some python code to remove some fake stars in the sky
Let's say this is a first version of the allsky. The plan at the beginning was to draw and 3d print the enclosure . Not enough time to complete the entire project.

Are you using the meteostation stuff. I saw a lot of activity in the github repo? Lot of improvement ?

The problem with video is they are quickly outdated because software evolved. If you take a look at Jasem YouTube Channel, you can see a lot of change in ekos between the first and the last video.
What about official documentation? Maybe it's a good idea to make short video tutorial and make a review of the doc in the same time?

What about live astro session and multilingual video?

Thank you, it was a lot of work and hopefully some piece of the project were already done.

We'll see at the end of october if everything works as planned. I forgot to say that raspberry is in readonly mode to avoid corrupted data in case of electric failure. I can access to the allsky via ssh to change python code and also to upload sketch in arduino with command line.

The external DHT22 is the side of the allsky and after taking a shower :pinch: , humidity sensor was saturated for a long time. So I'm using the hack of the year found in my garbage : a plastic bottle cap, some glue. Just have to cut, one side of the cap to let air passing throuh.

For the gauge, I'm using the meteostationmeteostation tutorial. I like them, this is javascript :

Raspberry with INDI which control a QHY5-II under the dome. The raspberry controls also an arduino. All sensors are attached to the arduino.

At first, I wanted to use meteoduino to control the sensor but the number of output is limited and difficult to program. I spent a lot of time with it and decided to give it up. So I program arduino to speak via serial and raspberry is listening through python code.

For the sensors :
- anemometer with mean and max value
- IR sensor as cloud sensor
- Internal DHT22 to measure temperature and humidy inside the seal box
- External DHT22 to measure temperature and humidity outside the box
- Internal BMP280 to measure pressure
- Solar panel to measure ambiant light
- Rain sensor with temperature control

I made a quick test with my QHY5. The log message indicates 1e-06 to 600s bounds. I was able to perform a 1µs frame with my old QHY5.

As always, Jasem, your are a master.

Topic solved.

Thank you Jasem,

It's much more reliable. I will test it next week with my own QHY5.
The QHY5II for the allsky is on the way for the Chili ^^. I will update indi at the end of october.
