Ah, it's always the cable, and never the cable.

Having the exact same problems. These settings fixed it:

DSLR settings
Force Bulb: OFF
Transfer: FITS
Capture Target: RAM
SD Image: Delete

Now it does everything correct but update the shutter speed in the camera...
