No more Problems with Canon DSLR! #42074
I am running Kstars/Ekos/Indi on my RPi4 4G. Everything has been testing OK until I connect my Canon 450D and switch it on. I get this error message (in Red)

2019-08-15T08:23:32: [ERROR] Can not open camera: Power OK? If camera is auto-mounted as external disk storage, please unmount it and disable auto-mount.
2019-08-15T08:23:32: [ERROR] Camera_get_config failed (-53): Could not claim the USB device

I am guessing that I need to link the camera to the USB tty device number, but until now other USB attachments (EQDIR cable to mount and GPS device) were apparently automatically mounted(?) correctly.

Any thoughts?
Ed

I had that on RPi3. When I remoted into it the camera had been auto mounted on the Pi. I was able to eject from there and it recognized the camera. This was a 1Dx, but may be worth a look.

I need to understand this mount/unmount issue. When the camera USB cable is plugged in there are two camera icons appear immediately on the desktop, no matter what I respond to the question about accessing the contents that pops up.

That's what I saw on mine. I was able to right click and one of the options is eject (or unmount, can't remember exactly). Once I did that the boxes went away and it connected.

They came back up at each startup. I was able to disable it with a command line instruction, but can't remember which one. Let me know if the right click worse, if it does I'll find the command that disabled it permanently.

So I right clicked and these are the options which showed up. I followed up a couple of them below.

libgphoto2 automatically mounts the camera. Please use Jasem’s PPA in which this behaviour has been disabled. Search the forum for how to do that.

Solved the issue by editing the RPi file /home/pi/.config/pcmanfm/LXDE-pi/pcmanfm.conf setting

[volume]
mount_on_startup=0
mount_removable=0

effectively obeying the error message that popped up in my first entry in the thread!

Thank you for the comment, I just revised my scripts to prevent the automounting issue on non Ubuntu MATE systems.

There is no PPA for Raspbian. We can wish upon a star. . .
