Getting EKOS to play nicely with Olympus E-M5 and EM1.2

Did a bit more searching, and it appears that the latest libgphoto2 drivers have not tricked to Debian yet. However, they are available in Ubuntu.

I guess I will have to work with Ubuntu until Debian and Raspian catch up. Setup ubuntu64-bit and ran the Astropi3 script. Then I manually updated libgphoto2 using Synaptics package manager.

I am able to capture images from the E-M1.2, thanks for the help guys.

I spoke too soon :( Had quite a few issues with Ubuntu, forced to fall back to Raspian. And it appears that the new drivers are not yet available for Raspian :(

Hi,

It appears that the updates have not made it to the Raspian version yet, can you please check?

Is there any new on this one. I have an EM-5 as well. This particular Oly model is not capable of USB remote capture but it is capable of usb connection to download images from the camera. Is this doable under Ekos?

I know this topic it is old, but I found myself in the same situation, with an Oly EM1.2 and an A7r cameras not willing to work with Kstars and Ekos.

So what I did, is try to find which version of libgphoto2 was on my Raspberry Pi 4, and it turned out to be last version available.

Then I tryed to see gphoto2 and it was missing on my system, so I used this command line to install it manuall:

sudo apt-get install gphoto2

And it worked out.

After doing this in a shell, I restarted Kstars, and Ekos, setted all the configuration of both Olympus OMD EM1.2 and and it worked like a charm. I tryed only to record the RAW files on camera, in the SD, and it worked.

On my A7r it worked but I couln't make the RAWs to be recorded on the SD. I don't know if it was a config problem or other cause.

Maybe someone can have some help with my findings.

Best regards.

I'm renting an Oly E-M5 Mk II this week to see if I can control it from Ekos. Looking at the libgphoto2 camera list, it should be able to be controlled.

Have you tried to import files into the Pi from the Olympus with Ekos? Without the ability to import files you cannot plate solve.

Thread resurrection but, the one issue I encounter when using an Olympus OMD EM1 Mk.I is the inability to save pictures in bulb mode. It works fine for exposures up to 60 seconds (occasionally, I still encounter a "failed to capture, trying again" message) with all the exposure options the camera provides. However, as soon as I switch to bulb mode, I'm unable to capture an image, and I've attached the logs for reference.

2023-09-11T00:39:00: [INFO] Starting 90 seconds exposure.

I attempted to capture an image directly from gphoto2 using the following command, but unfortunately, I had no success. Therefore, the issue seems to be with gphoto2 or libgphoto2.
> gphoto2 --set-config bulb=1 --wait-event=10s --set-config bulb=0

I later came across a script created by someone that after some minor modifications to the code, allowed me to achieve 120-second exposures using bulb mode (Credits to programatt -> gist.github.com/programatt/1d1f4987770ed8ecf5327df0ae561d0a). Apart from this, the camera has been quite usable with ekos.

Perhaps there's a way to bypass the INDI capture process and utilize this script, or even employ an external intervalometer to capture the photos and somehow integrate them with INDI.
I plan to create an issue in the libgphoto repo to investigate if this issue can be resolved. However, given the prolonged existence of these issues with Olympus cameras on the market, I have reservations about the likelihood of finding a definitive solution...
