Hi all,

Total newbie here, just started off with Astroberry . Primary aim is to use it to Polar Align my Star Adventurer.

I have been trying to get my cameras to work with KStars / Ekos, and here are the results.

1. Canon Powershot S3IS - Got it working and capturing images with Gphoto CCD.

2. Olympus E-M5 - Camera in Bulb mode and connected as MTP device.
Ekos sees the camera, serial number etc are displayed. However, when I try to capture an image, I get get an error about updating the image info. However, everything in that Tab seems to be read only. Have to power off the camera in order to disconnect

3. Olympus E-M1 Mark II - Camera in Bulb Mode and connected as Tethered Device. (not detected at all as MTP device)
Ekos sees the camera, serial number etc are displayed. However, when I try to capture an image, the shutter goes off and Ekos just hangs at "Transferring image". Have to power off the camera in order to disconnect. Same issue with image info t ab as the EM5

What am i doing wrong with the Olympus Cameras?

Could you test-drive your Olympus cameras with another program using gphoto? It might be an issue in this library.

Downloaded the latest version of Kstars / Ekos and tested with the EM1 Mark 1.

The camera shoots the image and Ekos just hangs there at "transferring image". Do I need to change some settings?

Anyone? Bump...

The EM1 Mark 2 triggers the shutter, but the image is not being transferred to the Pi. However, a copy is being saved on the camera SD Card.

I also tried using a powered hub, still no luck.

Planning to Implement a workaround as follows until this issue is resolved., will this work?

Use the Olympus Mobile App to remote control the camera and shoot a photo.
Use FTP to upload said image to the Pi
"Load and Solve" in Ekos
Manually adjust the mount
Rinse and Repeat until Polar Aligned

I have come across some references to disabling "Mirror Lock" to make it work on some Canon Cameras, perhaps that might be the issue for Olympus too? (although they are mirrorless)

I could not find the relevant option in Ekos, or the Indi control panel, can someone please share a screenshot of where to find this "Mirror Lock" option?

Used the gphoto2 cli to do some testing, and found something interesting.

Camera is detected properly in tether mode

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ gphoto2 --auto-detect
Model Port
Olympus E-M1 usb:001,005

Interesting output as part of ghoto2 --summary
pi@raspberrypi:~ $ gphoto2 --summary
Camera summary:
Manufacturer: OLYMPUS
Model: E-M1MarkII
Version: 1.00
Serial Number: xxxx
Vendor Extension ID: 0xfffd (1.0)

Capture Formats: MS Wave MS AVI Unknown(b980) Defined Type JPEG Unknown(b101)
Display Formats: Undefined Type, Association/Directory, DPOF, MS Wave, MS AVI, Unknown(b980), Defined Type, JPEG, Unknown(b101)

Device Capabilities:
File Download, File Deletion, No File Upload
No Image Capture
, No Open Capture, No vendor specific capture

Is that causing my issues? what does No Image Capture mean? Why isnt capture working when this model is listed as being compatible?

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ sudo gphoto2 --capture-image
ERROR: Could not capture image.
ERROR: Could not capture.

Times out after sometime.

So you might need to file an issue against libgphoto2 to follow up with this.

Thanks for the response Jasem.

So indi hands over to gphoto2 for the actual capture and transfer of the image?

Edit:

Did some further testing with an older Canon Powershot camera and image capture works. And the summary output is definitely different from what I get on the the Olympus.

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ gphoto2 --summary
Camera summary:
Manufacturer: Canon Inc.
Model: Canon PowerShot S3 IS
Version: 1-2.2.1.0
Vendor Extension ID: 0xb (1.0)

Capture Formats: JPEG
Display Formats: Script, DPOF, MS AVI, MS Wave, JPEG, CRW

Device Capabilities:
File Download, File Deletion, File Upload
Generic Image Capture
, No Open Capture, Canon Capture

Thanks for posting this. I'm an end-user just setting up an Astroberry unit, and I have an Olympus E-M10 Mk II and was wondering if it could work. Perhaps not. I also have Pana GM5 and GX85 bodies which I don't have good hopes of being able to use within Ekos/PHD2. I guess I may just have to depend on an external intervalometer to control the bodies.
