Focusing a Nikon D7500 through Ekos, how?

Hello all,
I've recently started imaging using an RPi with Stellarmate OS, and so far I'm very satisfied with it :)
I have only a small issue/question that I don't yet know how to solve: focus.

Let me start by saying that I've already read www.stellarmate.com/support/ekos/focus.html and also watched all youtube videos on the argument, but still cannot figure out how to proceed.

What I used to do before joining the RPi-SM squad was:
  1. open live view
  2. set magnification 1:1
  3. put a bathinov mask and tune focus
  4. repet about every 60m due to temp change

I see that in Ekos there's a focus module, and I've played it, but I'm not really sure this module is helpful for people like me, that don't have an autofocuser. Or am I wrong?

My big problem is that, once the DSLR is connected, it goes in PC mode and I cannot use it anymore. Therefore, if I want to focus using liveview, I've got to:
  1. stop guiding
  2. click disconnect from indi control panel
  3. click stop
  4. remove USB from RPi
  5. activate live view and focus
  6. plug USB again
  7. start indi again
  8. start guiding

This procedure is a bit painful to do every hour, there's gotta be a better alternative (I hope) :cheer: any ideas?

Additional question: when I use my camera lens instead of my APO refractor, is there a way to use the camera-lens autofocusing system?

thanks a lot!!

Hello Paolo,

Welcome to INDI forums! There is actually a "Bahtino mark" focusing type in the focuser moduule, have you tried using that?

Hello Jasem, thanks :)
I can't find that option in the Focus module. Where is it exactly?

It's one of the Detection settings.

Please check the screenshot below.

I see, thanks :)
I'll try it the next clear night.

One question: do I have to add a "focuser simulator" to my real profile or can I stay without a focuser at all?
