When i read about new developments, nightly builds, in EKOS do i manually have to upgrade my software or is it done automatically whit the upgrades of Ubuntu?

You would need the likes of unattended-upgrades for auto updates.
You can read more at for example www.cyberciti.biz/faq/ubuntu-enable-setu...ed-security-updates/

Once you have installed the nightly PPA, then updates will come with the updater on your system...but in my case I manually run it severy so often, not sure if it can be set on an auto mode, but mine does run each time the system is booted up... :)

Myself I don't jump on every update right off the bat. I like to wait and see the response and bug reports. Even then I maintain a raspberry pi sd card with a known working system while I test a newly upgraded one. Where I am, we get far too few clear nights to deal with new software issues.
