Hello PK,

The Esatto driver is part of the Sesto Senso 2 driver. I have used the Esatto with the Sesto Senso 2 driver, before the Esatto support was added, and I now have the newer Sesto Senso 2/Essato driver but haven't had a chance to try it under the stars, as its the cloud snow and rain festival here :( .

The Esatto is a very nice and solidly built focuser. I use it with my C8.

I have been using the Esatto 3" with the Senso 2 driver successfully, however I did have to change a GPSD rule if I remember to make it work. Mine Kept showing up as a GPSD device.

Thanks.

Looks like the Esatto series of focusers need the backlash module part tuned on.  Looks like there is a lot of backlash on the esatto 2" and 3".

Currently on the driver it's there but disabled.

I looked at the indi code, and can't seem to find any reference to backlash on any driver.

Agree 100%.   There is a slight backlash problem with the Esatto, yet I can't adjust for it with the INDI driver.
The other issue is the EKOS reads the internal motor temperature and displays it as the EXTERNAL temperature.   So I cant use the temp setting in the focus module, or in the Analyze screen - as it does not use the external temp probe readings.

Think I will put up some $$ on a bounty to get backlash added to the INDI driver. I don't mind paying for development costs to make the driver work better.

I added $50 as well. I hope they can also fix the temperature probe issue.

The Temp issue is they are flipped correct? External temp probe is on the internal temp variable?

Ok. I have tested all night, and found the following:

The backlash calibration procedure:

It is a great idea, however it is kind of cumbersome to use. If you use large step sizes in KSTARS for focus, it is difficult to detect the position at which backlash has ended. Plus atmospheric changes cause small changes in HFR readings to be reliable as a backlash detection method.

I use the graph created when doing an autofocus on K-Stars to look for the position you would expect to see the reverse function go to position and try and come up with a number that makes it stay within the predicted path.

I would recommend using a textbox to allow the user to fill in the backlash value.

The INDI driver moves the focuser to the target position plus the backlash offset. So the final Absolute position is target position +(-) backlash offset. This is not ideal.

I believe this is a limitation of the Esatto not having a proper backlash function.

To work around this the driver should re-sync the absolute position with the backlash offset, and then the driver should go to the target as expected. This scenario should work well.

Oh the temps are now properly setup. Motor temp is actually the motor temp and the outside temp should work fine.
