KStars & Ubuntu 21.10?

KStars & Ubuntu 21.10? was created by AirBourn

Running KStars/Ekos on Ubuntu 20.04 for a couple of years now.  Works well for me.  Noticed that 21.10 is now available.  Anyone have good experience with Ubuntu and have an opinion on 20.04 versus 21.10?

20.04 is Long Term Support. Wait for 22.04 which will be another LTS release as every two years.

I did try, but in the end had to go back to 20.04.
There were some issues with udev that were difficult to overcome and I gave up.

As others said, wait for 22.04 due in 2 months. If you want to upgrade, then wait for 22.04.1 due in late June IIRC.

It works fine for me. You might want to use the PPA rather than the version that ships with ubuntu though - it's really old and missing a lot of features from newer releases.

Hm serial converter can't connect? That sound like that kernel bug in 5.13 that Ubuntu 22.10 use.

Yes, the pl2303 bug was in 5.13 kernel on 20.04. I reverted to 5.11 kernel. Was assuming 21.10 was on 5.16.x with a fix for the pl2303 bug, but maybe that's a bad assumption?

No. 20.04 was originally released with 5.4. Then with each next release you can upgrade kernel in LTS to same version current Ubuntu release. 5.16 was release this 9th January so too and actually Ubuntu 22.04 will go with 5.15 kernel.
