So, the problem with my focuser not giving back its position isn't a problem for focussing. Autofocusing starts, a star is selected, it takes another picture around that star but than says HFR -1 and no stars found. While I'm clearly seeing it, nice and round already (manually I can focus) within the selection box.
I had an idea relating to the star finding algorithm while out running this morning.....
My telescope's field is not 100% flat so it would be great if the algorithm would favour stars midway between centre and edge of frame. Just a weighting in the algorithm or maybe something like that...
Actually could someone point me to the code? Is it in the indi codebase or kstars?
Ok, I must have missed that note, sorry Jasem. I also wondered if I could influence the auto-star selection in any way, yesterday (as a test of my new scope) I imaged Andromeda, but it selected Andromeda as a star.
It is using weighting algorithm now with adaptive threshold, but that's also not working in some cases, especially when SNR is low. I am working on gradient-based algorithm, but got swapped by other things. So hopefully in a week or two, I'll have something ready.
