I am presently preparing a presentation about KStars, Ekos and INDI (missionary act towards MS windows users )
Obviously KStars translates to KDE Star-something, INDI spells Instrument Neutral Distributed Interface, but what does Ekos abbreviate?
And who coined the term?
KStars started from the old (and now mostly defunct) tradition of naming all KDE applications starting with a K. For Ekos, I created it in 2012... but now I do not recall how I got the name exactly. I remember searching for easy Greek/Latin mythology figures and then I ended up with Ekos!
Please share the presentation with us once you're done!
Well, Jasem,
I could not retrace the name Ekos in Greek mythology (there are Eris, Eros, Echo, but none of these seem to hint to what You created with Ekos.
So I think we will have to some redefine it as some abbreviation for . . .
- well, here You all come in!
Any suggestions? Of course Jasem should approve before it get "official".
As to the presentation - it will be in German first. But if it proves to do the job I shall try and translate it to English.
pauledd, thanks for giving a hint towards the greek origin (oikos = home/house).
House it could be such as including a comfortable habitat for all our astro equipment.
Maybe Jasem had exactly this in mind
@ Jasem,
the presentation will not be held before March but when ready and translated (from German to English) I shall send it to You for further usage.
