Hi,
is the internal guiding software capable of subpixel detection as is the case for PHD/PHD2? If so, what's the limit for the movement detection? I seem to recall the default PHD configuration sets the minimal movement down to 0.2 pixels but you can go even lower, and I'd like to know cause I'm evaluating some mini guider hardware for my setup.
Thanks!
I know it can do sub-pixel centroid resolution but I dont know the limits. I guess the limits depend on a lot of factors like the sensor noise, focus, guide star brightness (flux), exposure length. Its probably something that can only be estimated by experiment.
I use one ASI120MC-S on a finder with F=160 mm and one on a finder with F=280 mm. With a pixel size of 3.75 micron they give pixel resolutions of 4.83 and 2.76 arc sec, respectively. When I am guiding I get RMS's of 1.1 and 0.7 arcsec respectively so, yes, sub-pixel guiding works.
