I have the exact same problem as you with a Canon 550D.
Canon DSLR does not loop images during polar adjustment procedure

You should use your guide camera, not your imaging camera. You do not have to worry about camera/mount alignment. (and bin it 2x2)

Yes, I should, but I don't. Because I am waiting on an adapter for it. But I guess that is besides the point, the procedure should also work with a DSLR.
I am rookie when it comes to imaging, but is it not the case that good polar alignment of the mount is important, even if you use a guide camera?

I always use my DSLR because it has a bigger FOV and therefore it is easier to aim at the pole and get the polar alignment procedure started. This used to work flawlessly for me as well but recently I have seen this behaviour a few times as well. Usually clicking the stop button and then Capture again solves the issue without having to restart polar alignment but it is a nuisance nevertheless. Unfortunately the weather hasn't been good here so I cannot verify if this happens all the time nor collect logs.

By the way, this is on KStars 3.1 on Ubuntu 18.04. I don't think this happened with Kstars 3.0 but I am not sure. I'll see if I can downgrade to 3.0 because this weekend I'll go to La Palma (Canary Islands, Spain) for an astrophoto weekend and I'd like it to go without problems :)

EDIT: It turns out the only version available in the ppa is KStars 3.1.0 so I cannot downgrade...

Just checked, I use Kstars 3.0.0, Build: 2018-12-21T09:30:46Z. I am not sure where to find the version information for EKOS (or is that given by the Kstars version?).

When I hit the stop button I lost connection with the Canon camera and had to cycle power to it and reconnect.

It is cloudy tonight, but the next time possible I will test again and record logs as per instructions in knro's signature

So I just ordered the T-ring and T-adapter for use with my 600D. I guess it would be a week or two and some clear skies before I can test this.

Ok... I guess there is no way to bypass the polar star resolving process and 'just' test the image cycle issue indoors is it? I would be happy to help. ..

Tried today with a new nightly build (Windows client). Worked! i.e. it was refreshing.
But after about 3 min it stopped refreshing saying (don't remember exactly) that the sequence was done...
I didn't have enough time to align.

With latest nightly updates - works as it should. Was able to complete the PA in Ekos for the first time.
it's all getting together.
Thanks!

P.S. Tonight was a good session (still going on). Everything worked.
KStars crashed two times out of the blue but I just restarted and without any realignment continued and it went (and still going) fine. Auto-guiding is better than ever.

Just an update... It started doing it again.
INDI on Stellarmate. KStars/Ekos on Windows client. Recent nightlies.
Wired connection.
Refreshes for 1-5 frames then stalls. If I wait long enough it gives me another frame or two then stalls.
If I hit Stop in Solver Control and then Capture&Solve, the procedure continues but again just for another 1-5 frames.
So it's usable but quite annoying.
(the end result was actually the best PA I ever had!) :)
Not sure what's going on since not everyone has this problem (some other people do. not just me)

That's weird, I have tried it yesterday with my ASI120MM and had no problems. Used the nightlies too.
Are you using the ASI294 for plate solve? What is your exposure time? I am using 2 seconds.

It is weird! considering that Framing in Focus module works fine.
I am using ASI120 to align.
Thanks!
