Last night I attempted guiding and it was OK, tonight a cloud less night I'm trying another session..
The guiding is going bonkers and I do not understand what's going on.

Only thing changed, I've upgraded to 1.7.7

I'd need to see behind your guide parameters and options. (both hidden).

I've been trying to learn the software and settings. (since I learn by trial n error). Last time I tried my own settings I was told no, Im' way off.
I went to the recommended setting and was getting 2.33 RMS. I went back to my settings and well... I haven't gone above .36 now in the last 45 minutes

Internal Ekos guiding is now where I use to run PHD2 and SGP. Finally! Knock on wood - will it happen next time?

Did the tracking stop? The guide pulses are extremely long.

How come we don't see any pulses on in your screen cap? I adjust settings by looking at the graph and the correction pulses.
normal settings " " are 66. for my setup. I never got guiding to work WELL until last night. My setting ended up at 266. (so much for normal).

I determined that by the graph and pulses and the mounts reaction. Min move is 100 as normal. I ended up around 25.

ODDLY - I calibrated as ST4 setup - then changed to pulse/mount mode. (not sure if that made a difference) but I was guiding under .35 total rms for a couple hours last night.
Yours is 7.75

Im' going to test it again tonight and see if I can start out in pulse mode and skip the ST4 startup. If you can try again and set your graph scale to show the pulses and movements.
I can determine a lot by seeing a length of your guiding graph.

I'll know more after tonights test.
here's last nights.

This is normally what I would get - GOOD NOT good - but not horrible. This was closer to default settings and ST4 configuration. This was before I discovered proper settings.
1.42 RMS.

I'm pulling these from the video I shot last night.

Cool thanks for the tips, I lost it completely earlier as it did not work at all.
If I pick Guider:QHY5 Via:QHY5 it does not work at all, I have to pick Guider:QHY5 Via:EqMod for anything to happen.

I have an HEQ5 pro with the belt mod.
How do you pick the guiding rate?
And from there, how do you actually change the values, as in which one do I start modifying? Can I do it while it's guiding or do I need to restart the guiding every time?

I captured a video of the whole process but it's a long 4+ hours. I just skipped through it recording bits of teh process to make it much smaller and "cut to the chase" so to speak.
It may be helpful?

if you do this you MUST plug in a ST4 cable from camera to the mounts guide port.

This is pulse mode. This didn't work for me before. I went to ST4 mode and has problems and switching back and tweaking settings in a major way worked great.

Guiding rate is usually recommended by your mount manufacturer. AP mounts suggest 1.0 rate. I had a HEQ5 and didn't have good luck with it. (I sold it 6 mo later) and moved into the Mach1.
The HEQ5 was horrible. NOISY. I pulled it appart and regreased the motors and gears and put it back together. It was quiet and better, but not good enough. So I upgraded.

I would try 1.0 rate first. I watch the graph and adjust what it NEEDS. In my video I saw it was not able to correct ENOUGH. So I increased proportional scale up from recommended 66 to 233 and 266
It then would not correct until it was 1.0 of error. So I reduce min pulse to 10-20.

Since direct mode did not calibrate properly and ST4 kinda worked but not well. I'm not sure if switching mid way did anything. I'll test again tonight and will start and try and calibrate in direct pulse mode.

You chose to use an ST4 cable (via guide camera) or pulse mode (via mount) in the guide panel.
At least with the AstroPhysicsExperimental driver there is "use pulse guding" setting that needs
to match the guide panels choice. Also in the driver panel is the setting for guiding rate, normal
recommendation if the mounts own guide rate is not known is 0.5.

Try the link again it was in a private group - I made the group public.

Last night - I could not duplicate the excellent guiding I had the night before. I started with ST4 and calibrated fine. But guides (fair to poor). About 1.3 or so.
I then switched to pulse guiding as I did the night before. But each time I did it would recalibrate. It would move the star small amounts properly... and
after about 8 or so little pulses it would start hopping across the sky again by huge amounts. So it can never "recalibrate".

I tried it at least 10 times. Same result. I went back and watched teh video of the previous night and when I switched from ST4 to pulse, it did no recalibrate.
It just started guiding (with same calibration?) and that's when it worked VERY WELL.
