Guider calibration is wrong after meridian flip

I mentioned this in a thread not created by me.
Creating a separate thread since this really drives me nuts and I just cannot fix this.

This is happening with HEQ5 controlled by RPI4 and latest SM (now 1.5.8 ). Both Windows and RPI KStars clients.
Was OK a few months ago (not sure exactly when).

It doesn't happen with my other two mounts: AZ-GTi (which is also EQMod) and RST-135.

Symptoms:
-- Meridian Flip goes well
-- Align Module aligns well.
-- Guide module starts the calibration routine
-- on the first run RA always goes in a wrong (opposite) direction.
-- calibration is completely bad
-- guiding goes nowhere
-- if I stop/delete the calibration and restart it - all goes well
It always fails on the first run but OK on the second run.

This is really frustrating since I cannot run the flips unattended.

Any hint will be greatly appreciated - thanks!

IIRC, this was reported multiple times. Maybe the logs would help? I certainly cannot reproduce it here.

I am going to have another flip in 10 min - will post the log after it's done.
Thanks!

OK. Here is the log.
Sorry it's long.
Tonight, I used an SD card from AZ-GTi which flips properly hoping it would fix my HEQ5 - it didn't.

In this log I have two flips.
1 - test flip going right-left pointing North.
With this one I stopped the calibration right after I saw it was going in the wrong direction.
Around 21:48.

2 - shooting M104. Pointing South, flip goes from left to right.
Around 23:05.
With this one I let the (bad) calibration to run for a while.
RA forward went in the wrong direction.
RA reverse went in the same direction and never finished.
Stopped the calibration.
Re-ran the Align.
Started Guide calibration - all is well.

Please see the attached log (zipped).
Thanks!

I see calibration was aborted immediately after flip, did you stop it yourself or it aborted on its own?

For the first flip I aborted.
For the second flip I waited quite a while and then aborted since it wasn't going to finish any time soon.
RA forward went in the wrong direction. RA reverse went in the same direction and never finished. Stopped the calibration.

Hi Jasem,
My knowledge is limited on this but...
Is RA guiding supposed to go in the same direction after a meridian flip and DEC is supposed to go in a reverse direction?
With my HEQ5 the RA direction gets reversed and DEC direction stays the same.
Is this wrong or I am confused about something?
Am I missing a checkbox somewhere?

I believe my other two mounts show the correct behavior.

Thanks!

There is something odd going on. I found a small issue that is fixed now, but I'm not sure if it will affect your results (since it doesn't affect my post-flip guiding calibraiton). Let's see. I submitted an MR here: invent.kde.org/education/kstars/-/merge_requests/289

Thanks!
Is this going to appear in nightly Windows builds?

Not merged yet.. maybe by tomorrow. Though I still don't think it solves your particular problem, but at least the logs would be better next time :-)

Does the setting in the solver for "Sync, Slew to Target, Nothing" play in here? I have had two nights lately where I set up captures through the "Camera and Filter wheel tab" that needed to do meridian flips. The flip was done successfully, and the frame was solved after the flip, but it never moved to the target after, and therefore never restarted capturing on the other side of the meridian. My workflow is to do the Alignment using the "Mount Model" with 2 stars, with the radio button set to "Sync" and then I set it to "Nothing" because I do not want additional sync points added once I am pretty well aligned. Too many sync points seems to be a problem. The rest of my night, I leave the setting on "Nothing", including during the meridian flip.

Thanks but no it's not related to "Nothing"...
