Polar alignment routine slew not happening...

I may have some setting wrong but cannot determine what might be happening.

I go through the steps of trying the new Polar Alignment routine and it takes the first image and says it is slewing to take the second image but no mount movement occurs.

After a while I stop the process and the mount starts slewing to somewhere but I have no idea where it is tring to go as I have to stop it.

I have tried with the mount parked and unparked and have updated the builds a number of times but no change.

I'm not sure if this your problem, but this used to happen to me. You don't mention your mount, but on my EQ6-R Pro, I needed to unpark my mount and make sure the "Speed" in Polar Alignment is set to "Max".

Hope this helps.

I had a similar problem last night. Mine occurred nearly every time I wanted to slew somewhere, including the initial star alignment at the start of my session. I looked at the logs for eqmod and found that I was continually hitting horizon limits and the slews were stopped before they started. To go along with this, if I clicked the button in kstars that locked where the scope is pointing to the screen, the location of my scope as kstars sees it would jump to below the horizon and back again. I was able to do some capturing after disabling horizon limits, but this was a work-around. There appears to be a bug introduced in eqmod/indi somewhere. The physical mount was never anywhere near negative ALT. kstars jumped to this location on-screen though.

Jasem, thoughts?

I also had that problem with my EQ6-R Pro. Jasem gave me a solution that worked. What is happening is that the mount sometimes sends spurious data on its position to EKOS. What you need to do is tell EKOS to ignore this information. It's really not necessary, as (if you start from parked position) it knows where the mount is pointed.

Here's the steps:

Go to INDI Control Panel --> EQMod --> Horizon

Then uncheck "Abort Tracking" and also set Limit GOTO to "Disable".

Finally, go to INDI Control Panel -->EQMod -->Options --> Configuration --> Save

Hopefully, that will fix your problem.

While those were pretty much the steps that I took last night, this was the first time I have ever had this problem. I really don't want those settings to be disabled all the time, as it is valuable to have limits. I would call disabling those a temporary work-around to not lose a night.

Understood, but I've had it disabled for several months with no issues. We were able to verify through the log that the mount was sending erroneous data. I contacted Sky-Watcher and they said that they didn't think anyone used that data and don't test it! They indicated that they use Software Bisque, which doesn't use it. I was pretty surprise by the response. However, if you think about it... if you start from the parked position (even without alignment), then you won't be off by much. Additionally, once aligned, EKOS knows exactly where you are pointed.

Good luck!

I don't have any issues slewing other than Polar alignment.

It is for a Losmandy Gemini 2 controller but I cannot see how that would be an issue, if it reaches limits it beeps and is wasn't beeping and was nowhere near the limits anyway.

I do have a log but I cannot get it at the moment.

Thanks for the update. It sounds like you have a different problem then, Paul.

If you would like, here is how you can update your signature to put equipment in to help with debugging: indilib.org/forum/new-forum-users/8195-w...ndi-forum.html#63061

Jim,

Thanks for the suggestion, I have updated my Profile.

I will try and get the log files soon, but when I looked at them earlier I could not see anything obvious.

I finally had a break in the cloud long enough to have another go at polar alignment.

Things seem to go wrong at the following line, where a slew should happen to take the second image, but no movement occurs.

[2021-06-12T19:38:18.186 AEST DEBG ][ org.kde.kstars.ekos.mount] - Mount status changed from "Tracking" to "Moving W"

I previously always pointed the telescope at the pole but today tried doing it away from the pole so other than that everything is the same as my previous attempts.

Other than Polar alignment, slewing always works.
