Hi all, Please can you help. I've a newly installed Raspbian/Bullseye system on my raspberry Pi4, and I've done the usual sudo apt-get install kstars. This installed kstars version 3.4.3, whereas I'm seeking the latest version 3.5.9.
If I try to sudo apt-get update and upgrade nothing changes.
I've tried to follow the update instructions from edu.kde.org, starting with
Hi John,
If you are starting from scratch I would recommend using Ubuntu rather than Raspian. Ubuntu IMHO is better supported through the repositories (fully up to date) and the new 22.04 version is LTS and very good. If you follow the instructions on the ubuntu section on this website. www.indilib.org/get-indi/download-ubuntu.html
I think that if you want to use Raspian you are better to use Astroberry. You can down load a preconfigured image from the Astroberry site.
Chris Kovacs' You Tube channel contains step by step instructions to install and create profile and use KStars/EKOS/INDI using Ubuntu. Here is the link. www.youtube.com/channel/UCjATVQDx-wC4I39ac0OFQ4Q
Hope this helps
I don't think it works on Bullseye, I have been unable to get it working, it just keeps aborting after taking an image and because of that i haven't continued my testing.
You can try my build script to get latest Kstars. gitea.nouspiro.space/nou/astro-soft-build I recomend stable variant.
To prevent any conflict remove indi and kstars packages before running my script.
Hi Nou - wow - thanks. TOTALLY AWESOME ... I ran your script and it appears to have worked. It ran for a couple of hours on my rpi4 (booted with an SSD)... and Kstars/Ekos fires up and looks good. It's version 3.5.9 also - which is brilliant.
Thanks so much - must have taken a lot of work to put the script together. Much appreciated.
worked on my freshly installed RPI4 with 4GB RAM and Ubuntu 22.04. One caveat is that I had to increase the default swap size from 1GB to 2GB otherwise the kstars compile failed.
Maybe you would like to add the indiweb install to the script and/or indistarter. I guess most potential users would want it.
