or
"GUIDE RA: Scope cannot reach the start point after 36 iterations. Possible mount or backlash problems..."

And have test all options possible, fast sep, smart ..more and minor pulse.

I forgot to mention, that the mount pursues objects well.
and finds them perfectly in the middle, so the parking is good.
Thanks, bye.

Hi,

This probably might not help your situation but I found a similar error and the workaround is not the most ideal.

I can a Celestron CGE mount which is different from yours. But it maybe a common issue with Celestron mounts internal circuitry or perhaps the driver. I park my mount at the end of the session and on restart unpark it. It finds objects well and plate solves no problem. When I go to guide I get the same calibration timeout error, and changing settings returns the same. Even using a different guidescope and camera (I had a setup a second guidescope and camera because this frustrated me so much) it returns a calibration error.

The work-around I have developed now is as follows:
1. Unpark mount at start of session,
2. Plate solve for three different locations,
3. Slew to Polaris and complete polar align routine (just to check because I have a roll-away shed observatory),
4. Slew to target, frame and focus,
5. Start auto-guiding (obviously it fails at this point)
6. Disconnect all devices and shutdown drivers
7. Factory reset mount using Nexstar hand-controller, at which point is asks me to recycle power which I do by turning mount off and then on. This slews CGE mount to home position as it finds switch positions.
8. Slew to target and plate solve (since I did polar-align routine its bang on)
9. Start Autoguide (this time the calibration routine successfully completes and i'm off guiding)
10. Start captures.

It's a little annoying and I'm not sure having to do a factory reset every session harms my mount but this seems to be the only way i can get autoguiding calibration to work.

My suspicions are that the mount somehow doesn't receive pulse-guide commands unless I do a factory-reset. I'm not knowledagble on the internals of the CGE so any answers to this would be helpful. Especially one that doesn't require me to do factory reset.

Many thanks,
Will.

Why would the pulse guiding requires a mount reset? Something else is at play here... could be mount guide rate? what is it set to?

Hi,

Guide rate is set to 0.5x. I use all default settings as they come in Kstars.

I am currently using a QHY5L-ii-c (colour version) guide-cam, auto-star selection with box size 16 when guiding (box size 32 during calibration), 2x2 binning and auto-contrast. Guiding is around 0.89" to 1.21" rms when stable. It's just the calibration at the beginning that I have to perform the factory reset on the mount for.

On my last session, these settings guided through clouds without losing guiding and the auto-star selection works a treat when a clouds were lingering on my chosen guide star.

I can't forget to say thanks to all the devs and everyone who has put in effort into INDI and KStars because it is astro-awesomeness. It has spurred me to learn a lot and over the summer when the nights are short i'll be implementing Arduinos for robotic focussing, dew heaters and flat-caps etc.

:-D

Many thanks,
Will.

Still, I'd like to know why the factory reset is necessary? Is it hibernation issue?

Jasem,

How can i diagnose whether it's a hibernation issue? As in, what steps can i take to verify?

Best wishes,
Will.

Ok now I have tested your system ..not work same error "...Possible mount or backlash problems." and "...JAM Mount"

At this point go in Indi Settings -> Celestron GPS
and in connection tab i see option "Use Pulse cmd" is On

stop calibration
set Off this option
restart calibration

..good, calibrate ok and fast :)

@knro add log of this sequence.

Now have retest, work ok :)

When I have add On "Use pulse cmd" ? ..not have idea!!
Is possible Park changed itself this option?

Thanks all.

At line 708 of the log. It is visible where I changed the option and restarted the calibration.
