I was having trouble connecting to the astrometry.net website today. I have tried several times in the last few hours. Has anyone else noticed? Has it been down for awhile?

I can't connect either. That's when you'll be glad to have it installed locally.

It’s been down for over a week now, from apparently a massive hard drive failure...I am waiting to download index files.. :(

Ok thanks for the answers. I always use it locally. It’s just that I was trying to work on an installer yesterday and I need to connect to the website to test it. Hopefully they come back online soon

You can download them manually and put them in the right folder but to automatically download, the website needs to be working.

It’s ok I have sorted, but have to download every file individually, which will take forever, is there a faster way..?

Edit:
Just found the Debian packages on that same site...so doing it that way....thanks very much.. :)

Thanks to everyone who has made this software. I really apreciate it.

Is there an idiots guide to setting up the offline solver? After getting everything working a few weeks ago I realized last night the online solver was offline. I'v installed all the extra add on's in Kstars (I think) with the hope that would give the the solver the infomation it needs to complete it's task but in reality I'm just guessing. I'd like to get everything ready to image tonight.

I saw the link pointing to the files: data.astrometry.net/
But in truth I really do not know how to "set that up" in mac. What to download for my particular FOV (Takahashi FC100df 740mm + 1.6 Extender + ZWO Asi294mc)? And where that file needs to go?
Any help would be great. Thanks

Hi Casey,

As far as I can tell, the server that is being used by KStars to download astrometry files is currently working. I just tested it in KStars and the files dowloaded fine. It is only the main server at astrometry.net that is down.

Thanks,

Rob

Hi Casey,

In terms of setting up Astrometry.net for your Mac, you need to follow the instructions in the dmg when you downloaded it first. Second, when you first start up kstars, it should have you set up astrometry.net. Then when you connect your equipment you will be able to download any index files you need. I put all of the required software and configurations into the app bundle, so you don't have to install any other programs. You just have to follow the instructions. Here is the screen you need:

Thanks,

Rob
