I was testing full frame focusing last night and had some good success. The caveat is that my camera takes ~11 seconds to download the full frame subs. This is why subframes are usually preferred.

However, I think substantial speed gains can be had w/ full frame mode. What is needed is a way to switch the camera to "focus mode" which shortens the download to ~2-3 seconds per frame. I believe to do this the focus module option would need to operate as follows:

- enable focus mode on the camera
- take a short sub, throw it away - this confirms the first focus frame will be good, at least with the FLI driver
- perform the focusing operation
- switch the camera back to normal mode for imaging
- take a short sub, throw it away - this resets the camera for normal mode

Is this doable?

As a side note, it might be good if the FLI driver handled the need for grabbing a throw-away frame on its own. This would remove the need to do this elsewhere in the applications that use it.
