Hi,

I was playing around with the new KStars 3.2.0 and want to have a look at Jupiter.
I searched for Jupiter (command + f) right click and choose "View in XPlanet" - nothing happens.

Now I open XPlanet and choose Jupiter - nothing happens.

Now I quit KStars and it crashed. Is it because Jupiter is below the horizon?

Yes, there is a problem with planets. Robert and I are looking into it.

Sorry about this issue, Some files for planets were not included in the data directory in the DMG that should have been there. I have corrected the issue for 3.2.1. You will probably want to delete your data directory in ~/Library/Application Support/kstars so that the new files will get copied in there when KStars copies in the data directory on startup. (Or you could copy the files in manually if you like)

After an install of 3.2.1
I copied the folder
/Volumes/KStars/kstars.app/Contents/MacOS/xplanet/share/xplanet
to
/Users/me/Library/xplanet

XPlanet won't launch from within Kstars, and running directly now gives

Oh ok, sorry, this was a different issue. The issue I corrected and was posting about was with some data files being missing for the planets in KStars. This issue is about xplanet not running. I think that the issue with xplanet here is just simply that I built it on my computer and probably have two different libjpeg versions. I will check on that later tonight. Sorry about the confusion. There were a couple of posts about planets and I thought for a minute that they were related.

Yes, I just confirmed it. The issue was that I had a different version of libjpeg in home-brew on my computer, so when I compiled xplanet to make the dmg in craft, it accidentally picked up the version of libjpeg in homebrew and linked against that one instead. Hence the error "Wrong JPEG library version: library is 62, caller expects 90." I will check with Jasem about updating the dmg. I can build a new one where xplanet works properly and get that out ASAP, but I would like to check with him about version numbers, etc. I apologize for that.

Hi and thank you for your help with this issue.
I deleted the kstars folder in ~/Library/Application Support/kstars, downloaded the 3.2.1 dmg, dragged it to my application folder and started kstars.
Now the assistant appears and I followed the necessary steps (create data directory...).

But it is the same behavior as before: right click on a planet won't open xplanet.
Open xplanet shows Saturn, switching to Moon, Jupiter - nothing happens.

Closing Kstars will result in a crash. Don't know if this has something to do with the wrong library you mentioned before?

Ok I think I have resolved the xplanet render issue. I just built an uploaded a dmg for 3.2.2. please test it and see if it fixes the issue.

However, I still run into two problems, don't know if this is an error on my side:

When I right click on the Sun and select "view in Xplanet", I only see Earth and Moon.
Select the Sun within Xplanet gives me the same result. Strange...

It wasn't easy to download the new Kstars 3.2.2, just because the download site still says Kstars 3.2.1:

Here on INDI I can only download 3.1.0:

I just copied the link of the 3.2.1 and renamed it to 3.2.2 and it just downloaded well

As said before, I don't know if these issues just on my side (maybe browser cache).

It's not browser cache, the pages are not updated yet awaiting feedback for some issues including yours.

Very good, Thanks for the report. It is users like you that help keep everything working well. I didn't even realize that xplanet didn't build properly. So I got rid of the conflicting versions of libjpeg and I also updated the recipe so that the issue shouldn't happen again, even if I do have other things in homebrew next time. But your report back after it got fixed also really helped since the only true test of whether it is fixed or not is whether it works on your system, not on mine.
