I keep getting timeouts when taking an image in the capture module

Hi,

latest issue that I hope someone can help with.

Whenever I try to take an image with the capture module, it times out. I am using the nightly build and KSTARS 3.2.3. My camera is a ZWO ASI290MC. It connects properly but won't capture an image. I have tried with other capture software and there's no issues.

I am wirelessly connecting with my Stellarmate (which is on the same network). Have used EKOS on my laptop and directly through Stellarmate (via VNC).

If I connect the camera directly to my PCs USB port, I can capture an image. The issue only appears when the camera is connected to the Stellarmate. Could this be a comms issue with the onboard USB port?

Thanks in advance.

Also make sure you are using a good 3 amp power supply for the rpi..any less than 3 amps and some cameras struggle, especially when connected directly to the rpi.. :)

I’ve tried all four of the USB connections on the rpi (a repurposed Asiair). Don’t have a USB hub.

Well I’m using a repurposed ASIAIR which has a 12v to 5v converter at 2.5 amps. Thing is I don’t remember having any issues when it was an ASIAIR so not sure if that’s the issue.

Does the USB hub need to be powered? How is it all connected up?

2.5 amps is not enough, you need at least a 3 amp power supply, that is more than likely your issue.. :)

I was in error in my original post. The 5v converter puts out 3 amps.

I also did a little experiment today. I loaded up the original ASIAIR software to see if I had the same issues. So loaded up the software, attached the camera, fired up the ASIAIR app, took a picture and can you guess what happened?

Yes. You guessed it. The camera worked fine. The setup is exactly the same except for the fact that I was running ASIAIR instead of Stellarmate. So that says to me that there is an issue with the software not recognising the command to take a picture.

So turns out it wasn't a power problem at all. For some reason Stellarmate 1.4.0 didn't like my cameras. Upgraded to 1.4.1 and everything works perfectly.
