I agree - RPI3b+ was late (and some of us are still having problems with it using the Beta.2 :-( ) so how much later is RPI4 going to be if RPI3b+ isn't fully released yet. The guy has only so much time and compared to Raspbian seems to lack people resources.

Maybe Jasem has the same problem in supporting Raspbian versions ?

But at least Raspbian comes out with the new hardware - even if it still has a few problems.

If its a case of "someone" doing the donkey work to get a supported Raspbian version with automatic updates as per the present Ubuntu Mate (not compiling from some) I would stick my hand up to help in some way.

Frustrating I guess for all :-)

So what are my limitations now to using Raspbian with the Pi4 for dedicated Astro? The Pi4 4gig is sitting on my desk and I sort of just realized that the normal astro distro platforms like MATE won't be ready for awhile.

Personally, I prefer it to Ubuntu Mate, but you need to build it yourself.

You have confused me. I don't have any hope of getting a Raspberry Pi 4 for a few months, but I assume that building INDI on it will work just fine. Is this not the case?

At the moment only the Debian based Raspbian Buster is available for the Pi 4 and it works fine. The INDI library can be compiled and the indiserver can be accessed it remotely or you could setup a standalone system with some more effort.

Thanks to you two for your advice and opinions. I actually found a walkthrough on the Stellarmate FB group that I will have to use. It's been a long time since I played in Linux and when I did, that was just spinning up management VMs using CentOS and Ubuntu 16.04.

Here is the link for the walkthru.

A version of Ubuntu Server 18.04.2 is now available for the Raspberry Pi 4. It does not have a desktop, but one can be installed.

I don't know if it is me, but that Facebook link did not work. Do you need a Facebook login to use it?
