I will have to ask Jasem about this, I don't know why he would have switched to Raspbian. I thought he was pretty well set on using Ubuntu, especially because he runs the PPA and it only works on Ubuntu.

For VNC control, there are numerous programs for running that and some are faster than others. I personally have used RealVNC myself, but others seem to prefer others and say they are faster. StellarMate uses noVNC I think.

Note that you don't have to do imaging or astrophotography over VNC, you can connect your PI and connect from your laptop computer running KStars. The PI can host the INDIServer and you connect to it from KStars on the laptop. this method is not sluggish at all. It is almost always the way I control my equipment. The only time I run the whole imaging session on the Pi and just connect via VNC is when I want to have it be fully automated and turn off my laptop computer. But if you have other computers lying around where you are observing, then no need for using VNC.

Hello,
I just got myself a Mele 3Q mini PC.
Installed Ubuntu Mate 22.04 and used Rob's script to install the stuff.
All went smoothly and all seems to be in place.

However, I cannot connect to Mele remotely over VNC.
When I try to connect with UltraVNC, Mele (x11vnc) asks me for a password but doesn't take any.

How to configure x11vnc correctly?
Can someone please help me!
I never used x11vnc before.

Thanks!

Just googled x11vnc password and came up with this link which claims your password might be ubuntu

learn.linksprite.com/pcduino/linux-appli...o%20in%20this%20post.

In any case, assuming that's correct, you should go through the effort to change your vnc password to something more secure.

Here's another one that shows how to set your password

OK.
Figured it out.
x11vnc doesn't want to use 5900 port. Uses 5901.
x11vnc app doesn't work properly (at least I couldn't make it work properly).
Launched from terminal and was able to connect!
Thanks!

You can try the Nomachine solution instead of VNC. It is very simple to setup and use.
I prefer Nomachine and I use it for my house network.

I also use NoMachine on my Mele Quieter 3C. Works well for me, but I can't comment on whether it's better than an alternative.

Cheers

Thank you guys!
Yes, I am aware of NoMachine. I was just wondering why x11vnc was not running properly after installed by the script.
It was actually installed properly, just needed some additional configuration.
It took me quite a lot of googling but now it's working fine - auto-starts as service and accepting my password.

Hello,

Would it be possible with AstroPi3 script to choose the version of Kstars to install ? You know that at this time there is an issue with the QHY camera and the V3.6.3.

No issue with the V3.6.2 I have it on my laptop. I would want to have it on my RPI4 (with Bulleyes) in order to stay inside during the capture and not in the cold outside.

I try to build from source this version but I have errors during the make operation. If you could solve this issue it would be great.

Hi Nelly,

could you be more specific with your issue ?

1st : what kind of hardware do have ? A Raspberry ?

2nd : what script did you use ? This Script ?

If yes, I might see why there's no EKOS in Kstars. According to my understanding, this script builds all the INDI, Kstars/Ekos librairies and softwares. And I have already faced this issue (Kstars without EKOS) when I first starts to build Kstars with QtCreator. There was an issue with the required librairy kdoctools-dev. And when I compiled Kstars, I successfully builded the software but without EKOS. If I remember well, I found out the librairy kdoctools-dev is not OK, and must be replaced by libkf5doctools-dev. I am not yet sure about this as I have not used any script but instead I took some ideas from the Ubuntu script and have used ppa to get INDI and Kstars.

Do you have any logs or any error messages from the build of Kstars ?

Btw, maybe this issue might come from the builds of INDI core and INDI 3rd-party librairies as well, regarding the issue with the required librairy libkf5doctools-dev instead of kdoctools-dev.
