unguided dithering?

I frequently image without guiding, and would very much like to be able to dither anyway.

As far as I can see, this isn't possible in Ekos but it's certainly possible in other software.

The logic is as follows for sequences which specify dithering:

if guiding then
displace guide target coordinate
wait for guiding to move mount to new target
else
nudge mount or slew mount a very small distance

Oddly, I guess this belongs in the guider module, even though it's about unguided dithering.

Or maybe there are so few people doing unguided imaging that this is a silly request?

Thanks for considering.

What you seek is indeed found in the guiding module. Go to the guide module, click options, now select the guide tab. You should find a dither control section. Here you tick the "Non-Guide Dither Pulse box. You will have to enter an amount of dither in milliseconds and you may want to adjust s settle time appropriate for your setup. You can also select the frequency of the dither action. Hope that helps. ;-)

Just make sure to select only "Non-Guide Dither Pulse" and not the "Dither" box above. I made the mistake of checking both, thinking that the both needed to be on. Next time I loaded EKOS an error message kept popping up about guiding and then the program would close. I had to hunt down the KStars configuration file, open it with a text editor and reset the Dither field to "0", I believe. It worked just fine, after that.

Thanks everybody!

Sometimes I think I'm blind or something, because I frequently miss fairly obvious GUI settings!

That was happening to me as well. I just removed kstars/ekos and downloaded it again
