Can not use Darks Library

I can not use darks library on my KStars 3.5.0 build from the master branch. Build: 2020-11-20T04:39:17Z
I can see dark files in the folder that were created by the auto darks feature. But the list for them does not populate in KStars. Refresh does not bring any up.
As a result, auto darks function attempts the process repeatedly.
I believe it has been this way for some time.
Thank you.

Hi, yes. can confirm that behaviour,

BUT are we sure we want to do that anyway? Subtracting a single dark frames introduces more noise. With SEP I think that unless we want to go phd2 style and make a master dark from several single frames, this feature is redundant.

Cheers and clear skies.

That's actually a pretty good idea. But now this should at least be made right.

I think you're gonna have to send at least a log.

I tried here:

That may be the same issue. But fundamentally the issue is none of the dark frames, which are being taken, are being added to the library seen in the EKOS portion of Configure KStars.

I believe the dark library is due for a re-work in 3.5.1. Also, instead of taking single frames, perhaps KStars should take a minimum of 4-5 frames and then save the median as the effective "master" frame for the exposure/binning/temperature combination. It's going to be slower than now of course with the single frame but probably more reliable.

"master" frame for the exposure/binning/temperature combination

Hi
My (most?) guide camera is not cooled. The 5 or so median frames is how PHD2 does it (and it works well in removing noise) but without being temperature dependent.
I think a dark library built on guide camera temperature is gonna catch a lot of us out.
Cheers,
Steve

At least some guide cameras do report temperature, it's probably closer to the rule than the exception. That should be all that is needed to determine if a dark/master dark is suitable or if a new one should be taken.

Just to be clear, you're suggesting NOT using darks at all with SEP? I usually let me session run while I sleep if the weather looks good. I will occasionally get in incomplete session because the temp changed enough to trigger EKOS to ask for a new dark for my guide camera. I know I can change the temperature threshold from the default of 1 C to mitigate this, but it isn't a problem often enough, and I have a decent dark library. Thanks.

Hi
Yes. AFAIK, a single dark frame introduces more noise. Unless you're prepared to be at the camera all night in case EKOS asks you to cover the telescope to take a new frame, go without and get cleaner guide frames anyway; win:win.
Just my WFM and €0.02.

I fully agree with alacant, that's exactly my experience. I do not use any dark frames for guiding, ever. At least in my case guiding works perfectly without darks.

Whether or not it is desirable, the feature is still broken as far as I know and causing issues when enabled. It should either be fixed, or removed entirely if it is no-longer useful.
