INDI Library v2.0.7 is Released (01 Apr 2024)

Bi-monthly release with minor bug fixes and improvements

Installing on Kubuntu

Installing on Kubuntu was created by Tim

I've just installed
Ubuntu 20.10
on my new laptop. It seems that the package for indi is broken on this distro. When I tried to use Synaptic Package Manager to install say indi-gphoto I get the message

'indi-gphoto:
Depends: libcfitsio8 (>=3.470~) but it is not installable'

Any idea as to when this might be fixed. I'm trying to switch from ASCOM to Indi , thus ditching windows, and this is causing a showstopper at the moment.

Thanks

Tim

indi-qhy using synaptic package manager gives the following message

"indi-qhy:

Package indi-qhy has no available version, but exists in the database."

Do not use the synaptic package manager to install INDI and KStars.
Instead follow the directions to install the Stable Release found here to use the correct PPA Repository.

Thank you for the suggestion. I've been away, hence the late reply.

I've tried following the webpage that was linked to by cutting and pasting each line into Konsole. I got to "sudo apt-get install indi-full gsc" and the response was "E: Unable to locate package gsc".
Could someone point to where I'm going wrong please. Here's the total output from Konsole

If I see it correctly, GSC is provided by the indi-nightly repository so you have to add this to your repository list first. I suspect GSC *should* be provided by the stable repository though.

I've tried the suggestion to add the nightly ppa and get the same result. Here's the output from that attempt
tim@Tim-TUF:~$ sudo apt-add-repository ppa:mutlaqja/indinightly
[sudo] password for tim:

This PPA is for nightly UNSTABLE Ekos & INDI drivers builds. This is NOT intended for production use, it is only available for testing.

I assume that's why I've been having the other failures as well. indi-qhy and libcfitsio8.
I've got 20.10 as this is a brand new laptop and so I just installed the latest version as it adresses some of the hardware issues such as backlit keyboard and the 2 graphics cards setup. So far Kubuntu has worked very well and the installation was seamless. I guess I have to wait for Indi to catch up. In the meantime I'll just boot into Windows for my observing and use ASCOM instead. It'll be a while until I'm INDI ready in any case as I'll have to write a driver for my dome rotation system that I'm making. Currently totally refactoring the arduino code that runs that !

Thanks

Thank-you very much. That's great news
I have a fair bit of work to do before I can go live with it in my observatory. For one thing I have to write an Indi driver for my homebrew dome rotation system. I've written an ASCOM one so hopefully I can steal a lot of the logic from there :)

Excited to be able to get started though
