Hi there,

When using a DSLR like the Canon 6D, I know it records the sensor temperature in the raw file as BackyardEOS gives that readout. Is it possibile to include this information in the filenames of the files I get via Ekos? It would be great to create proper dark libraries and such.

Thanks, Vincent

How can you get sensor temperature from GPhoto2?

I believe certain cameras log the Camera Temperature in the Exif data, Gphoto2 can read the data.

It must be something that libgphoto2 can provide, or if there is another way to do it, please send a patch!

I actually never looked if libgphoto would be able to do that, hence my question. ;) I'll try to find out if it is able to, is libgphoto really the only way to get DSLR photo's through btw?

It's not about only way, but the INDI driver is based on GPhoto, hence we need to use libgphoto to query any info. Anything that requires additional dependencies is not a good idea.

I'm not 100% sure, but it looks like the temperature should be in the exif information and libgphoto does have a --show-exif command.

I'm reading about someone using exiftool and getting this data:
HighlightTonePriority : Off
FlashMeteringMode : Off
CameraTemperature : 17 C
FocalLength : 24 mm
CameraOrientation : Horizontal (normal)
FocusDistanceUpper : 3.86
FocusDistanceLower : 3.04

dcraw has a -i -v option to get exif information, but I'm not sure if that includes the temperature.

Ok, just tried it, no temperature using the -i -v option. :( Should be possible though.

I will, but I doubt it. Just tried exiftool and weirdly enough that tool finds tons of data, including the temperature. Would it be hard to actually have a seperate tool in Ekos to use for cases like this? I can imagine regular CCD's have a lot of exif information as well.
