Eqmod costom gear ratio was created by Lars

Hi,
A couple of years ago I asked if there was a way to set costom gears ratio in eqmod. It was in this thread:

indilib.org/forum/mounts/5573-eqmod-and-custom-gear-ratio.html

I have not solved that yet. But plan to do it now for my EQ6 mount which operates without the hand terminal.

But before I start this work which I don't fully understand how to do.

Isn't any alternative to eqmod driver I can use instead that can be setup with different gear ratios ?

Or if there is someone that's skill enough to rewrite the eqmod code to have a setup in the menus for costom gears ratio as it is in the Windows version of eqmod ?

You can probably calculate the new ratio and work out a custom tracking rate that can be set in the INDI driver.

Hi Andrew,

Which Indi driver do mean that I can use and setup for a custom gear ratio ?

I know how to do it in Eqmod but then I must change in the source code and compile, not very practical.

None that I know of. I said you can set a custom tracking rate.
But if you're able to modify the driver source code, then you should just do that cabs give it a unique name.

Now at last I have solved part of this problem. I have learned how to write simple C++ code and also installed the Qt Creator tool in the Raspberry. I have it now running indoors and it looks to work as a mount with original gear ratio do. When given order to rotate 90 degrees it also do that.

I have written down how I did this here:

www.astrofriend.eu/astronomy/projects/pr...ect-indi-driver.html

I still have the RA drift problem to solve, but can't do any test for the moment because it's no clear sky. As it's now it only work for my own gear ratio, maybe I can find a way to do it more general. One simple thing can be to pickup the gear ratio information from the setup file.

Thanks everyone for the help from this forum !

It's going forward, I got a clear sky yesterday and could do some outdoors tests. It still looks that the EQ6 mount working as it should. I could also do some test about the RA drift problem. I found that to get correct speed of my mount's RA rotation, Sidereal time I have to set it to: 11.25 arcsec/sec. From that I could calculate what correction my mount with Custom Gear need.

It's documented here with screendumps and info:

www.astrofriend.eu/astronomy/projects/pr...ect-indi-driver.html

Now I can update the sorurce code according to this and see what's happen.

My modified EQMOD driver still works fine. I have updated my document of how I edited the driver:

Hope it can be of some help.
