Let's say the mount is in the home position, weight down, telescope straight to Polaris.
How would I get the RA to move 90 degree exactly to get the weight bar horizontal?

I suppose it is a German mount. In the home position (weight down, telescope straight to the pole), the coordinates of the mount should be DE: 90° RA: ST +/- 6h where ST is the sidereal time (KStars >Tools > Calculator > Time calculators > Sidereal time). You can sync with these coordinates and slew to DE: 90° RA: ST (+12h) to get the RA to move 90 degree.
