Correct procedure is as follows:
Unpark Mount
Point to Betelgeuze in KStars (right click pop up menu appears)
In the popup menu click on Eqmod -> Track
Wait until the mount stops moving

Then go to the align tab en do capture&solve
Use the sync option that works better that than slew to target
Then you will see in Kstars the mount is not on Betelgeuze anymore but in the neigbourhood.
Right click on Betelgueze again -> EQmod->track and you should be spot on

One small comment to the otherwise correct procedure: I do not necessarily agree that Sync works better than Slew To Target. I use Slew To Target all the time and it works great. One additional benefit of Slew To Target is that you only need to tell the mount to slew to an object once. Slew To Target will keep on taking images, solving and slewing until the target is within a certain limit of the center of the field of view. This limit is set to 30 arc seconds by default but can be specified. Don't set it to 1 arc second though, that may be too tight a limit.

Had it several times that the slew to target kept on going forever. (Think there is even a warning about it somewhere on the site) That's why i changed to sync, no problems then (except solver does not always work, but that is most of the time my own fault. Forgetting correct telescope info, exposure time ...)

Paul

Yes this happened to me in the past as well but in the past few months this problem has disappeared again. In any case, Armin now has several options to choose from :)

@ Astronerd: I will check this evening, if there is the red circle. I don´t remember at the moment.

@ Ihoujin: Jasem told me that using the EQDir cable the hand controller is not needed any more. So I connected the Eqdir cable directly at the serial interface of the mount connecting on the other side via USB to Stellar Mate.
Therefor I use the Eqmod mount driver.

@PDB: I did also the way you described, but after clicking “track” nothing happened.

@ Wvreeven: Jasem also told me, not to use Sync, better to use slew to target.

Thanks for all answers so far!

What power supply for the mount do you use? I have noticed slewing problems with my HEQ5 using an EQMod cable when the mount couldn't get enough power. the red light on the mount, next to the power cable, would blink in such a case. It *needs* to be steadily alight.

Don´t know which power supply it is, but I will observe the red light tonight.
Thanks for the hint.

Sounds like the problem has nothing to do with the platesolving. Sounds like the mount is just not unparked. Doublecheck that first.

I also had the experience from time to time, that „sync“ was working better then „slew to target“

When you click on track, does the red crosshair move and just the mount does not? Or is the crosshair not moving too?

Cheers
Niki

Yesterday my mount moved! :cheer:

When I started Ekos and then Indi, the mount is already unparked.

I right-clicked on a star ->chose EQmod mount ->track.
Then the mount moved to Betelgeuse. Unfortunately it was cloudy, so I could not test the plate solving.

I think my error was, that after right-clicking the star I directly did capture & solve in the Indi alignment module.

But one additional question: What it the difference between track, slew and sync when right-clicking in the sky map?

Track: Follow the movement of the object in the sky due to the rotation of the Earth
Slew: Move from the current position to the selected object
Sync: Inform the mount of the current coordinates it is pointing to. The mount may or may not think it is already pointing there but from then on it will.

I wasn't aware that clicking Track also involved a Slew. The behaviour that your mount shows, seems to indicate that :) I usually enable tracking in the Mount tab and then always use Slew to make the mount point at a different object.

Thanks a lot!

So "Track" does only make sense, when a star alignment has been done before?

Not necessarily. When clicking Track or Slew the mount will be ordered to first slew to the selected object. In both cases the pointing will be poor if no star alignment has been done before.
