I'll second this one here.... www.amazon.com/Anker-Ultra-Slim-Portable...tebook/dp/B0192LPK5M

I use an ioptron ieq45 pro, Moonlite focuser, StellarMate and two ASI cameras.

Anyone using an
APANAGE 8 Port Powered USB 3.0 Hub Splitter, 4 Port USB Data Hub + 4 Smart 2.4A Charging Ports USB Hub, 12V/4A Power Adapter ? Price looks good ($Cdn)

www.amazon.ca/APANAGE-Powered-Splitter-C...dapter/dp/B07H19K7H3

[EDIT: I now have this, and find it works well powering the RPi3B+ and at the same time my Nikon Z7 using a Case Relay. ]

I suspect most if not all 7 port hubs are not actually true 7 port but rather contain two 4 port bridge IC's, the second daisy chained the the primary. For this reason I choose to use 2 x 4 port hubs. Perhaps not so important with the Pi since all 4 USB sockets and the ethernet socket share a common bus but on more capable hardware it can be an advantage. Avoid hubs which use micro or mini USB sockets for power input . These sockets are less robust than simpler barrel jacks.

I have been using a 2.0 USB Powered 4 Ports Switch HUB Adapter For Desktop PC Laptop Compatiblegeneric USB 2.0 hub (as the Pi 3 only supports USB 2.0) - £3.40.

It has been working well for peripheral support (EQMOD mount and usb focuser). Haven't tried it with the camera. Powered it from the 12-5VDC step down converter that is powering the Pi.

Note: After confirming it worked OK and mounting it next to the Pi, I attacked it with a soldering iron to remove the very bright blue LEDs.
(unable to enter the link in post above, here is the link to the item I purchased in UK: look for "2.0 USB Powered 4 Ports Switch HUB Adapter For Desktop PC Laptop Compatible")

Hello Jasem,
I use a TP Link USB 3 Hub.
It is a 7 Port USB3 Hub with 2 additional charging only ports (2.4A each)
It is powered by 12 Volts, which enables me to supply with the same power source as my mount, the camera, and the focuser.
The raspberry with stellarmateOS is powered from one of the charging ports.

Regards

Dirk

I have been using this hub:

www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SIQIV04/

For the last couple of years. It is basically the exact same size as the raspberry pi/stellarmate, so I have velcroed them together. It also has USB 3 support if you are using a rock 64, ODroid, or something like that. The input for the USB hub is 12 volts, so I just plug it into the same battery or DC power system that is powering everything else in the field. It also very conveniently provides a 5V output that I connect to the power port of the Pi, ODroid C2, or Rock 64.

So it is awesome that the input is 12 volts and it not only provides the USB ports for devices, but also powers the SBC at the same time.

So far, it has had no trouble with the cold, and I have had it in some pretty cold weather.

Thanks,

Rob

Rob,
I have exactly the same setup : )
Except I had to cut/shorten that blue USB3 cable - where did you get it?
I searched lazily and didn't find any.
Thanks!
