When using the alignment module to center a target a lot of sync points can be generated in a small area. Each one carries a weight and can make it difficult for the mount to correct the remaining pointing error. My experience is with the EQMod Driver for SW HEQ5 Pro. Targeting might improve if sync points within the immediate vicinity get automatically deleted, say any old points 1°-2° apart.
For EQMod specifically setting Alignment Mode in Align tab of the driver to Nearest Point seems to help as it then only uses the closest point so the others don't interfere. I've used that mode for a few years first on HEQ5 and now EQ8 and haven't had issues with pointing accuracy.
Could you share your eqmod alignment and sync settings? I'm having trouble keeping my allignment working, once ekos starts adding points. It works fine initially for one target, but if I slew far away it will often be way off and sometimes never converge to the target but go-to back and forth jumping over the target....
My problem sounds like something the proposed feature would eliminate.
