The DragonLAIR Roll-Off Roof Controller is an innovative DC powered roof control system for personal observatories. As a standalone device, the DragonLAIR doesn’t need a dedicated PC to run, it connects directly to your existing network via ethernet. The built-in web server allows you to control your roof with your phone or desktop web browser. Or just use the included hand controller for moving the roof in person. And with up to 500W of output to the motor, you can move up to 16 foot roofs with ease using the DragonLair Roof motor. (Roof motor, motor mount and mechanical components sold separately.)

Description

The DragonLAIR WiFi Roll-Off Roof Controller is an innovative DC powered roof control system for personal observatories. As a standalone device, the DragonLAIR WiFi doesn’t need a dedicated PC to run, it connects directly to your existing network via ethernet. With its built in WiFi, DragonLAIR has redundant networking in case the wired network fails, you can still get the roof closed.  The built-in web server allows you to control your roof with your phone or desktop web browser. Or just use the included hand controller for moving the roof in person. And with up to 500W of output to the motor, you can move up to large roofs with ease using the DragonLair Roof motor. (Roof motor, motor mount and mechanical components sold separately.)

Safety Features

The DragonLAIR WiFi features four ports for connecting retro-reflector safety sensors. If any of the sensors doesn’t report a reflection, the roof won’t move. You can use this for pinch points near the edge of your roof, or mount the reflectors to your telescope tube to make sure the roof won’t move unless your scope is parked. And our integrated state machine ensures the roof only moves when it is safe. Pair the DragonLAIR with your existing weather station and control software to automatically park your mounts and close the roof when bad weather threatens. This requires setup in your control software, such as KStars, N.I.N.A. or SGP. The DragonLAIR does not integrate directly with weather stations or your mount on its own.

Compatibility

The DragonLAIR is compatible with the most common amateur astronomy protocols, including native ASCOM Alpaca and INDI. This allows you to use the controller with popular imaging software, such as KStars on Linux and Mac, as well as N.I.N.A. or SGP on Windows. This opens up the ability to have a fully automated system that can image while you sleep. And when paired with your existing weather station (or online weather provider) you can rest assured that should bad weather threaten, your equipment will remain safe.
